Skysports Transfer blog; After Bradford confirmed they had rejected a bid from an unnamed club for striker Nahki Wells, we understand that Wolves are the mystery club that saw an offer for the highly-rated forward. The likes of Leeds, Blackburn, Wigan and Middlesbrough are all thought to be chasing Wells during this month's transfer window.
Am I the only city fan that doesn't want anything to do with him just yet. Yes he has done well in the lower leagues but it is a massive ask for him to do it in the prem.
he's currently at what I believe to be a bargain price compared to his future value. this kid knows where the onion bag is and is a fantastic prospect. speculate to accumulate, whether that accumulation is talent or financial.
Buy him at the cheaper price now and loan him out for Championship experience.... otherwise you end up being quoted £7million etc... from the Championship club he's at (in the future).
It's not that easy, I doubt he'd sign here to be willingly farmed out on loan when there's plenty of suitors willing to give him certainty.
Sign for a Prem club and be loaned to a Championship club (a level above the one he is currently at) to gain experience to aim for a first team push in the summer, or go straight to a Championship club? Either way he'd be playing Championship football, so it wouldn't really make much difference to him.
Don't disagree with you, but this "kid" is 23, nearly 24. Although late developers are not unheard of, I would have expected a 23 year old with 3 years experience in the lower divisions to have been spotted by Premiership scouts by now. So I have my reservations about whether he will reach Premiership standard. Championship, maybe, or move up to Celtic and score for fun amongst the cave dwellers of St Mirren and Ross County.
He's a really impressive finisher, one of the best I've seen, whether the rest of his game is up to Premier League standard, only time will tell. I wouldn't mind if we took a punt on him, though I suspect we wouldn't want to go far north of £1m.
I've seen a few games of this lad and he looks quality. Its always a risk to pay 6 figures for a player who is two divisions below you are though, best leave him to us eh . Scouts have been looking at him for years, I wanted Leeds to sign him a season and a half ago so he has been doing it for a while, the only reason he'll change clubs this season is because his contract is running out and he has said that he doesn't want to sign a new one, he could've been playing in the champ at least a season or so ago imo.
When was this? It seems you guys have missed out a little (although didn't Ipswich have Rhodes as well and give him away for practically nothing) I remember him scoring against Watford a couple years ago in the cup and thinking he looked a pretty decent finisher back then
It was 2011, before he went to Carlisle. It happens all the time, you released Tom Cairney for being too short and we've just sold him to Blackburn for £600k, despite him being in the last six months of his deal. Didn't you get Max Gradel on the cheap from Leicester too?
I'd buy him now if it was up to me. Bradford aren't going to stand in the way of him moving and we could offer a youth player/Aaron McLean (if he'll go) in exchange to fill the void. The only worry for me is that Dwight Gayle looked cracking in the Football League, but you wouldn't have him at City now based on this season. We need something different and Wells would offer it, so I say yes.
I don't think too many would mind having Gayle at £1-2m, but when you pay £8m, you expect a little bit more.
If they rush the kid he'll end up the next John Stead. The likes of Lambert, Holt etc had time to progress through the leagues and work on their game.
