Was having a debate with some of the other cult members about this. With decent performances all over the pitch who would get your MOM for yesterday? Not going to go through the whole team and haven't put up a poll but Bony springs to mind - was tireless throughout, held the ball up well and laid off to other players whilst taking his goal brilliantly. Chico was to blame in part for the goal because he lost Hernandez but made up for that with some excellent blocks. Amat was solid too, whilst Taylor looked like the player of old. Routledge - again, best game in ages and pivotal in both goals. But for me Pozuelo deserves it and some media outlets seem to agree I've noticed. Kept attacking relentlessly even though it didn't always come off and gave them a real headache all game. His through ball for Routledge was jaw-dropping. Superb. I can see other aguments so what do you think?
Yes, Poz had a great game but I'd still go with Bony - as did most of the journos. In addition to his goal, it was Bony's pass to Pozuelo that enabled him to set Routs up. Bony was immense throughout. His hold up play, his movement and strength on the ball were all great and he was always available for the out ball. In short, he played a great lone striking role yesterday. This not to under rate Pozuelo who had an excellent game himself and was always pushing us forward.
Yes I can see that, ivor. It's unusual for us to have such a close run thing on MOM because we usually have one outstanding performer but last night it was a great team performance and any one of 4 or 5 players could have got it imo. That's the way it should be.
For me Pozuelo was MOTM. His first touch & control was outstanding, his passing was high quality throughout the match and whenever the opportunity arose he ran forward with the ball making breaks and asked questions of United's defence, he played with confidence and took responsibility even while others were a bit stand offish for periods during the game. I'd like to see him play CAM in front of 2 of Shelvey, Canas, Leon more often because in my opinion he is a better player than JDG.
Now that's a debate. Completely different kind of player to JDG as he's more ready to take players on, and that's why he's a winger I suppose. But with Michu coming back he won't get in that slot imo. A great option though.
I have to say my top 2 from yesterday would have been Taylor and Bony, altho0ugh Taylor didn't get forward as much as we have been used too with Ben, but he done his job as great as he always did, and bare in mind he was up against Valencia, who isn't a slouch, yet he was pretty much invisible yesterday.
Very hard job to pick a single player out but if i had just one choice then it has to be Bony for me, so many candidates deserve a mention though..
I have to admit to agreeing with Dai re Bony but a lot of the players mentioned above deserve full credit such as Taylor, Poz, Chico and Routs
Do you know who bt sport give the MOM to? I remember them saying Chico was a candidate with about 20 mins left but missed who they actually gave it to!
