Don't worry, an insider from our club has said the Gradel rumour has no substance. Also, Stewart has the potential to be a very good player! We turned down a very large offer from Leicester when he was on top of his game. If he regains his confidence, you'll have a very good player on your hands.
Kiwi We don't have any decent cash, so cannot get the players we want. Stewart may or may not be a decent signing and Bruce has just stated that he will be at Leeds or Charlton within the next couple of days. If he goes to Charlton it's because they have more cash than us as usual and he's a mercinary. If there was any ambition about Stewart he should go to Leeds. There are some great loan players around from top 5 prem clubs. They want them sent out to get experience and we need top talent. You wouldn't quibble about Zaha would you but he's on his way somewhere and yes it could be lower prem, but you never know. Derby dont have cash but are fending off suiters will Hughes and are taking in prem loan players to bolster their position near the top. Maclaren doesnt have cash but he's making BMcD look silly at the minute as we have a better side than Derby (On paper)
The money situation isn't clear yet. If Stewart is our only signing then I will be disappointed with our activity in the window. That said, I would rather only sign one or two than pay ridiculously inflated January prices for players we could pay less for in the summer/get on a free. It's frustrating that we can't go out and sign five top quality players for £3/4/5/6m now, but I trust that McDermott will make sure we make every effort to sign the players he wants if they're available at the right price. As for the loans, there are some great players available, yes. Zaha would be an excellent acquisition, although I doubt that would ever happen. The problem with loan players is that they go back at the end of the season and we're in the same predicament again. Derby are signing lots of loan players but they have the talent in their squad to complement them and they're looking good for promotion. Signing Zaha/Bamford/whoever on loan won't make us promotion material overnight, and I'm content with building the squad up over time. Sure beats Warnock's one-season-masterplan, anyway. On a side note, I don't think we have a better side than Derby on paper at all - only McCormack would get near their team.
McD knows what he's doing, he is just stuck with a bunch of rubbish on the books right now eating up wages and occupying spaces we need to fill with more talented players ... it is critical that the board back him completely and get his targets in ... we all know we are short of quality, and it was just a matter of time before they were found out Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Sadly I understand we are showing growing interest in a 33 year old midfield player, who's best days are far behind him. The player is Richie Wellens who was recently at Doncaster. Once again it shows little effort to bring in quality and instead we look once again at the freebies.
If we didn't already have so many ageing midfielders I would be pretty happy with this in truth. He is actually a pretty good player at this level and not far off what we need in our team/squad, we are also quite short of quality in the centre as well imo. Sadly, we already have Tonge, Norris, Brown and Green so I wouldn't like us to sign anymore midfielders until they are off the books unless they were young exciting prospects at least.
BMcD has said in the YEP that he had similar problems at Reading the season they won promotion. He was talking about 5 poor results on the bounce, and said he wanted leaders so went out and bought Jason Roberts, who was a leader which showed another 3 players how to be a leader? wtf? OK he got them promoted but he needs backing because talk of Cameron Stewart and one other prem league player coming this week is sounding desperate. If we have cash in place why is Stewart not here yet? smells fishy to me and like he's either waiting to see who offers him the most or we don't have cash to do it yet/ not happy with either scenario
the main issue is for us at the moment is we are stuck with a lot of dead wood at the club who are on decent wages none of which to Bmc's fault, players such as Tonge, Brown, Diouf just to name a few I know can do a job in our team but aren't of the standard we require now. we need to make sure we are working within the realms of the financial fair play rules also. On a separate note despite his age Richie Wellens wouldn't be the worse signing, see him play us about 4 or 5 times and there is a few characteristics, he is box to box has plenty of energy not scared of putting him self about. he also falls under the leadership qualities McDermott has spoke about seeing as he has captained both Leicester and Doncaster in the championship.
not just as simple as that, the deal between the clubs is more than likely done its dealing with players agents with slows the process down
I would imagine the Stewart deal is just about finalising payments etc, as the player hasn't requested a transfer so he is entitled to some compensation from Hull ... it will be a free transfer as well so helps us financially ... the other player could be Chalobah from Chelsea, who did so well at Watford last season, although Karanka is talking to Mourinho about taking him to Boro
Billy Sharp - loan at Reading finished 1 January, he scored two goals in his time there ... Reading claim they want to get him back but until now they haven't spoken to Saints
Adam Le Fondre - hasn't started at Reading for two months (just 9 starts this season, scored 7 goals) and wants out and has gone public saying he will consider any offers that come in to get a move ... 18 months left on his contract but not favoured by Adkins (why?) although Adkins says he is "keen to keep him" ... at Reading he has made 37 League starts in total and scored 31 goals ... would really like to see him at Leeds
Me too, Billy, but as I remember, BM used Le Fondre as a super sub when at Reading. For some reason, he rarely used him as a first choice starter. Le Fondre, therefore might not be interested in working under BM again. Just sayin'....
Why are people incapable of spelling this guy's name Think I'd prefer Sharp to be honest, think he is more the type of player we need although obviously wouldn't say no to either, ideally I'd like us to get Wells though. Can't actually see us splashing the cash to be honest so none of these will happen imo. Think we will bring in around 3 or 4 players but they will be cheaper players who could become something for us rather than proven talent. Its the way BM tends to work anyway.
It's an emergency loan deal only, you can only play him for 93 days(as he's played for two clubs already), I'm not sure why we didn't just leave him at Charlton for the rest of the season.
There's talk that we could be looking for an exemption (which has been done before) as he only played 50 odd minutes for you.
The other PL player is Jimmy Kebe: "Phil Hay ‏@PhilHayYEP 20m Transfer update - understand that #lufc are close to a deal for Crystal Palace winger Jimmy Kebe." "Matthew Reeder ‏@MReederYPSport 16m We understand Leeds United are close to sealing a double deal for Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart. #lufc" http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ds-set-to-sign-jimmy-kebe-from-crystal-palace If I were Sheffield Wednesday I'd be a bit worried at the prospect of facing Stewart and Kebe on the wings on Saturday.
daaah, just beat me to it. Kebe would be a good signing IMO http://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/...Leeds-United/story-20415688-detail/story.html
