A slightly different slant and title to a thread..... but going back to the fans forum the club participated in, a Club exec clearly stated a while ago the cups would not be a priority for NUFC.
Looking at the poor crowd today (just a bit over 30,000?) some of the fans shared a similar view.
Now, I'd love a cup run but right now I honestly see the cups as merely an additional games burden on a 'compact' squad shall we say.
The single issue we had today is that there were too many 'new faces' playing together.
This is of course a symptom of the clubs recruitment policy and therein small squad, as well as the fringe players simply not being good enough.
Don't get my wrong ANY game we lose hurts but the league has to be a priority for us given the start we have had.
We may also see the shallow squad issue addressed now as the window reopens... but I ain't holding my breath.

Some of our fans on Twitter were quite embarrassing tonight with their panic tweets and one lad in particular, I took to task for wishing death on Obertan.

We lost a game that was there for the winning today which hurts, but there are still positives. <ok>

I personally don't think there are any positives to be taken from today whatsoever – and frankly any club finding them is setup to be unsuccessful.

We've bemoaned our luck with getting tough away ties in cups and frankly if today's draw wasn't one we should win never mind fancy to win, nothing is.

The fact is NUFC feel cup competitions to be a nuisance. If Mike Ashley could play a league campaign and pay only a squad of 11 with substitutes he probably would.

Start adding fixtures on top of a Premier League campaign and you have to invest in larger squads OR play players who you can't shift out and duck out first stage.

There was nothing but negativity about the Europa League and I guarantee if we're in danger of securing it again this season they will put the brakes on.

If it doesn't make financial sense, you can forget it. No footballing ambition whatsoever and we have to face facts...

To be fair...
I've been to a lot of games, and No-one scores a worldy... And today was another example of that!

But seriously, we're going to lose games like that in the rest of the season and the many thereafter... tight games will go for you, and sometimes go against. I've seen Cardiff put in some good performances in Cups as a championship team, never-mind one that just spent £40 million in the summer window... It's no disgrace to lose to them.

It is when they haven't won in 4 and have rested more players than us. We were awful AGAIN today and I'm in disbelief at what I have watched over the last 2 Newcastle games.

I think, to be frank, the big message from today is that sometimes you win games and sometimes you lose them, and sometimes neither of these things happens and you've just got to accept it and people call it a draw.
I am very proud of you, my friend. It makes me think: What have you done today to make you feel proud? I can't answer that today BUT YOU CAN!

At least I didn't have to leave the house at 6:40am to get to the game today.

New Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer masterminded the Bluebirds first win at Newcastle in 51 years as goals from Craig Noone and Fraizer Campbell completed a superb comeback in the FA Cup third round.

Solskjaer made his name as a deadly substitute striker at Manchester United and he introduced Noone and Campbell in the second half to earn Cardiff a place in the fourth round for the first time in four seasons.

Papiss Cisse followed up Moussa Sissoko's effort to score in the 61st minute after Hatem Ben Arfa had hit the woodwork either side of half-time.

But Cardiff were transformed by their replacements as Campbell hit the post before Noone fired in from long range a minute after coming on.

And Solskjaer's former Manchester United team-mate and ex-Sunderland striker Campbell ended a four-game winless run for the Bluebirds with a header 10 minutes from time.

It is the first time that Cardiff have beaten the Magpies in the FA Cup and the result will give the club a huge boost after a difficult period following the sacking of former boss Malky Mackay on 27 December.

What a record to lose.

I would have received this comment in a better light Albert if you had posted it last week
