Colback plays down move talk Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback expects to stay at the club this month despite being linked with a January exit away from the Stadium of Light. Colback's future at Sunderland has been the subject of conjecture for some time with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season. Contract talks are thought to have stalled with the likes of Swansea and West Brom credited with an interest in the midfielder in this month's transfer window. However, Colback is ignoring the transfer speculation and fully expects to remain at Sunderland beyond the end of the transfer window. "I expect to be here at the end of January," Colback told The Journal. "The transfer window has nothing to do with us as players. It's the people above who sort that out and we just have to get on with it." Meanwhile, Colback admits time is running out for Sunderland in their battle to avoid relegation, but he remains hopeful they can get themselves out of trouble. Sunderland slumped to a 12th defeat of the season against Aston Villa on New Year's Day and find themselves four points adrift of safety. Colback admits he is at a loss to explain why Sunderland are able to take points off the leading lights of the Premier League yet fail to get the better of fellow strugglers. "I'm not sure why we can beat those teams at the top but not those around us," added Colback. "We've beaten Newcastle, Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea but fallen short in the games we should have won. "Maybe it's the added pressure of being expected to win at home and the crowd get frustrated when we're not doing that, performing and winning the games. "We've got to be able to deal with that and we've got to be able to do that soon. "We've improved a lot but playing well and getting beaten isn't good enough in the situation we're in. We need to pick up points as soon as we can. "We're absolutely convinced we can do it. Teams get written off too quickly at both ends of the table. We've got full belief in ourselves. It can change week-by-week. "We're capable of bridging that four-point gap."
Certainly wouldn't miss him if he did go. He seems to play a blinder once in a blue moon and gets your hopes up that he could become a good player and then quickly returns to mediocrity.
Yup. Think this is what frustrates us and poyet, no consistency, we play well one game then were utterly shocking the next
We've lost a potential 5-10m player for nothing. Of course he's gonna be here at the end of January and then in the summer he's gonna have the choice of half a dozen premier league teams on increased wages and a massive signing on fee. I don't blame him at all either.
Poyet rates him in his favoured position. Seem pretty simple to me like, we stay up, he signs, we go down, he leaves.
I think there are a few players this applies to, who's contracts are up at the end of the season. Maybe this is why we are in the ****e, because they don't give a **** whether we stay up because they won't be here
I don't think there will be many if any departures in January but a host of them in the summer, whatever league we are in. These planks have had more than enough support internally and externally but have failed 3 successive managers now. I couldn't give a ****e who leaves in 5 months time tbh.
What the *u*k top ten Premier League team would sign him ? No one, Swansea shipped Ki out man Lads, Leadbitter was a more accomplished player, Championship at best, FFS !!
No better than average, & despite that one of our better players. I don't mind if he goes, it concerns me that some do, it just shows how poor we are overall. The only players I'd be genuinely sad to see go this season are Mannone, Giacc & Wes. Obviously I exclude Ki only as he belongs to Swansea.
He can pass a ball. The sort squad player we want rather than a gards or a larsson, should be looking for better first team players in the summer like but I'd still give Jack a new contract though if all goes well I'd be hoping to phase the lad out and move him on within the next couple of seasons.
EVERTON are preparing a summer move for contract rebel Jack Colback - if Sunderland lose their battle against the drop. Homegrown midfielder Colback turned down a new deal in the summer and is out of contract at the end of the season, when he will be eligible to leave for nothing on a Bosman free transfer. With Sunderland’s Premier League future hanging in the balance, it is no surprise Colback is playing a waiting game rather than committing himself to the Wearsiders. The 24-year-old said this week that he does not expect to leave during the January transfer window. However, Everton boss Roberto Martinez is a big admirer of the versatile academy product, who is comfortable both at left-back as well as in central midfield. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/everton-lining-up-summer-move-6469047?
