    Suffered on/off from bad bouts of insomnia since age 19... However, being off work ****s it up big time. Each night since 23rd December has averaged no more than 3 hours kip. Monday is going to be a ****.. Anyone else suffer from insomnia or did this tread cure it?

    I have had it for 25 years - probably average 4 hours a night. Every 5 weeks or so I end up hitting a wall and am out for about 10 hours.......

    Had insomnia for 26 years. When I was a kid I could sleep for Britain.

    I sometimes think that my violent and death ridden nightmares are the cause of it.

    Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

    I suppose you just develop coping mechanisms. It'sironic really as most of my friends and family only need 5 minutes in my company and turn into Rip Van Winkle

    Always found that my insomnia was stress related - suffered a lot of it during school years (never did any coursework / homework, spent all night stressing about it). I took herbal sleep tablets for another ailment in the past, which worked quite well (it gave an equivalent feeling to when you do a physically laborious job, then get the 'ah yessss' as you lie in bed) - but I reckon you could get addicted to the ****ers. More recently a heavy-reading book does the job of putting me to sleep, I'd recommend physics (proper barely understandable physics, no Brian Cox) for knocking you out within half an hour.

    Normally I can sleep no problem anywhere anytime.

    Occasionally I have trouble sleeping when it seems like ma brain won't switch off and in fact goes into overdrive.

    When I can't get to sleep I like to think of my brain as a hamster in its wheel.

    And god ****ing damnit if I had a gun I'd shoot the ****er.

    I usually get 6-7 hours of good sleep every night. Unless the lad's up during the night of course, in which case it might be 4/5 hours. Never have a lie in though, unless me and the missus go away for the weekend. And B & Bs still make you get up at 8am for breakfast. It's a ridiculous policy.

    If I drink I'm out like a light but wake up early, usually around 4am.
    If I don't drink I can't get to sleep for ages but once I do I sleep like a log.

    You need to find a balance: a double scotch about 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep AKA a nightcap might do the trick.

    Tonight I'll have TMS on the radio: Aggers, Blowers and Boycs will soon get me off.

    <laugh>

    'tis true.

    I do enjoy a nightmare. Waking up in a panic followed by the blissful realisation everything is actually alright.
