Took my daughter to the flicks yesterday for her birthday . This years boxing day birthday blockbuster was the latest Tolkien lovefest from Peter Jackson .

It has all the usual fair of Mr Jackson's work . Visually stunning CGI abounds , New Zealand landscape aplenty and a running time that is at least half an hour too long .

Actually found myself nodding off . The closing sequences with Smaug in them are pretty damn fine though but it's a struggle to stay awake to get to them .

His Hobbit adaptation was originally supposed to be two films but he decided to stretch it out to three . Bad move

Watched a couple of films last night . Both were based on actual events although a large slice of artistic licence seemed to be prevalent in both .

Out of the furnace and Fruitvale station . Both were actually pretty good .

Excellent cast in the first one . Woody Harleson is especially good . He does play psycho well does Woody .

    Lawless.

Not bad though Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman were hardly stretching themselves.

Elysium Ok, would have been better with a bit more action.

I found it a bit dated, what with the outfits and all. Still decent though I agree.

Right now in the usual outlets there is a DVDrip of a film starring Mark Wahlberg called .....Lone Survivor .

If ypu have a young family member who is thinking that it might be a good idea to join the army and go fight in far flung foreign fields for honour and glory and a jolly good weaze then this film will do them a world of good .

Take it from one who knows , THIS **** JUST GOT REAL.

My favourite film of 2014 . I tell you now it's a must see .

    Brilliant .

Although the films is 24 years old now, I have just watched 'Awakenings' for the first time. will definitely watch it again. De Niro is brilliant in it.
