Dunno if any saw this. Esp. Davy Russell. Think its a bit premature myself but hope Bryan Cooper gets it. Going all the way to the top this lad Our Conor will miss him this season
The rest of the Irish jocks mustn't be up to much then if Davy has won the last two championships.... Ok Ruby was double jobbing with Nicholls but I would think there are a lot of worse jocks about than Russell. I would imagine that Cooper will get the job but Russell won't be twiddling his thumbs for the coming year.
Anyone who had that job was going to win the Irish jockey title because of the sheer number of talented horses they have with a wide range of trainers. Ruby barely rode in Ireland as well but when he did he took first choice rides from Paul Townend which completely killed off that challenger. In a nutshell he's had no serious competition for two years. You need volume and quality and he has had it whilst the other jockeys have not had similar resource.
Very stylish from "Mr Ryanair" sacking his retained jockey over the Christmas period. Whether you rate Russell or not that is terrible timing. This has probably been planned for a while though and I'm sure Bryan Cooper will get the job next.
Cooper will get it. Agree with the classless timing Oddy. I'd go with Paul Townend but it won't make much difference either way. Both quality young jockeys with big futures.
Davy Russell ****e Did you see his ride on Don Cossack in the Drinmore? Agreed O'Leary seems a selfless soul doesn't he. As for Bryan Cooper getting it, I still think it was pretty unsporting for them not to let him ride Sir de Champs in the Gold Cup but I guess with AP available they clearly weren't bothered about loyalty.
Sorry Bob but he's not ****e, obviously everyone has their opinion but reading this it just comes across like you're trying to controversial. There's a many worse jockeys out there
I'm not trying to do anything other than say what I think. Maybe I need to clarify. He had the third best job in NH for 7 years. He was no where near the third best jockey for any of that period. He won the Irish title because the Gigg send out 500+ runners a year before he even contemplates an outside ride. If he hadn't been given what turned out to be a gravy train 7 years ago I doubt you lot would be arsed about an average jockey call Davy Russell.
Russell has never ridden Our Conor. D E Mullins the last twice (flat and timber) and Cooper the rest. It's a bummer to be handed your comics at Christmas, but he isn't the first and certainly won't be the last
No surprise today to see Cooper announced as replacement for Davy. Is the better long term proposition but still think Davy will feel a little aggrieved. Wonder if he'll consider a stint across the pond if an opportunity arises.
