You still seem to be having an identity crisis spending so little time on the Mackem board and so much here.
Perhaps you need to be made an 'Honorary Toon Fan' in recognition.

If you still persist with misguided notion that you are indeed a Mackem, have a look at a book called 'The Sociolinguistics of Identity' (from Page 113 Regional Variation and Identity In Sunderland) it may help in some way understanding the 'Inferiority Complex', Bitterness' and 'chips on shoulders' etc, that mackems have toward Newcastle and Geordies. It's a boring read, but I'm sure it will help you.

Thatcher intervened in Nissan deal

Margaret Thatcher was forced to intervene in a dispute between two senior Cabinet ministers to save a major foreign investment project she had personally guaranteed.

The Prime Minister had secured a pledge for massive inward investment from Nissan, the first Japanese car company to enter the UK, by promising favourable tax breaks to the firm's President.

The plan, agreed in January 1984, eventually resulted in the construction of a manufacturing plant in Sunderland where more than 6,000 people are still employed


So without Thatcher, would Nissan be in Washington - probably not.

This is one of those rare occasions on this board where **** just gets too damn boring and needs a closed sign putting up... we know SAFC are ****.

 

Just over 2 months since this thread was posted and they still find themselves in the bottom 3 and with Man City to face tonight at the Etihad it can only be assumed that they'll remain there come 10pm.

Their league schedule is then as follows: Arsenal (a), Liverpool (a) Palace (h) Norwich (a)

Very tough next 5 games for them. You'd have to suggest that they'll get no points from the next three which then puts huge pressure on the games against Norwich & Palace.

They also still have to go to White Hart Lane, Stamford Bridge & Old Trafford. I know the Mackems would never believe me but I 100% wouldn't swap our season for theirs when you taking in to account their remaining fixtures and the fact they're also almost certain to lose the cup final.

Anyway just thought this would serve as a little "pick me up" for those of us that are a bit down in the dumps regarding our beloved toon.
