The next seven league matches will take us into the end of feb and into the closing part of the season, some big games with 4 away trips to teams in and around the drop zone, things will swing massively all around with 21 points up for grabs ,4 6 pointer away games and with new signings potentially amongst our ranks How do you think we'll do? City v Chelsea Norwich v City Crystal Palace v City City v Tottenham Sunderland v City City v Southampton Cardiff v City
That's wishful thinking. There's some extremely tough matches there. If we were to get that points tally, we'd be safe more or less, I reckon. I can't see it going to 40 points this season, as it's so tight at the bottom.
Sunderland's my last game before going back. If we can pick up points against Norwich, Palace and Sunderland I'll be happy, even if it's just three draws.
Very tricky period, tough games at home and teams fighting relegation away, all desperate not to lose. City v Chelsea - 0 Norwich v City - 3 Crystal Palace v City - 1 City v Tottenham - 0 Sunderland v City - 3 City v Southampton - 1 Cardiff v City - 1 Total = 9 points. (32 points overall). I reckon 36/37 points should see survival this year. So 6 points from the games would not be a disaster, providing we don't drop points to our rivals. Definitely would take, although sure we will lose when form and league position says we wont and vice versa.
6/7 pts max I know the old saying that the table never lies because every team plays each other twice blah blah blah but WHEN you play certain teams can certainly have a big impact. For example, we went to So'ton when they were at their best, 3 players announced in the England squad, riding on a crest. Bad time to play them. I would imagine Cardiff will have a mini-revival if Sjolskaer is appointed - so by the time we go there at the end of Feb they hopefully will have returned to mediocrity or worse.
6pts with our only defeat against Spurs the rest draws , id take that scenario where we go away to all the relegation rivals and come back with a point
If we're going to finish in the top ten 6 or 7 points will leave us with a lot of work to do. We really should aim higher.
I see Lampard and Ivanovic are out for a month, so won't play against us. Small comfort when you look at their bench, but every little helps.
I think Sunderland are playing much, much better now than they were before Poyet. That will be a tough one. I'm far more optimistic about the Norwich and Palace games. Palace have been going well, but surely it can't last.
I dont see us picking up many on our travels, and our home games are even harder! We need to make sure we at least draw the games against Norwich, Palace, Sunderland and Cardiff, which is a big ask on its own.
