To add insult to injury, the Arsene Wenger on Cabaye verdict was that the Arsenal boss doesn’t need Newcastle’s playmaker.

After the final whistle the Arsenal manager claimed that he already had an embarrassment of riches when it came to his midfield, pointing out that as well as his three midfield players today he also has Arteta, Ozil and Ramsey in his squad.

This is what the Gunners’ boss said after the final whistle when asked about a January move for Yohan Cabaye;

“No we don’t look for midfielders (in January window).

“Today we didn’t have Ozil and we didn’t have Ramsey, who stayed at home.

“We still though had 3 good midfielders and on the bench I still had Arteta – there’s no real need (for Cabaye).”

To be fair, Cabaye looked a match for any of the opposition midfield today but Alan Pardew didn’t give free rein for Cabaye and the rest of the team to attack the opposition until it was too late.

The later play indicating that if Newcastle with Cabaye as their inspiration, had relied on attack as their best form of defence, they may have seized the initiative before the visitors managed to get in front.

 

To be honest, I think a lot of what we saw was down to legs... The teams that have had a double home fixture all seemed to look that bit stronger at the end of the game, or the team that brought on better plays from the bench seemed to seize initiative. I don't think we could have played that way the entire match. It was just Arsenal dropping deep which allowed it to happen.

And as THTK and I discussed on another thread, they really don't need Cabaye, glad Wenger realises! Reckon there will be clubs interested though, he's back to form.

 

When I talk of having a run of luck here is another example Newcastle faced Arsenal without Ozil if you get the opportunity try to watch him playing

 

Even if another bigger club came in for Cabaye (or any other play for that matter) the player will need to think about their World Cup place. He may be a certain for a starting birth at NUFC but wouldn't always get that luxury else where.

 

I can see a move to Man U. Perfect fit for them.

 

You know what, Man Utd could do with our entire midfield, and the options on the bench. That's how **** there's is.

I think we need cabaye for the rest of the season. The more i see him and anita together i realise we will need to move to a short build-up way of attacking if we're to use him as the replacement. Currently we dont have the right men for that, particularly up front. Take cabaye out the team and we start heading towards the frustrating play of last season.
