This guy is such a lunatic that I feel he deserves a thread all of his own. Now Robbie - please don't get upset Changing the shirt colours is one thing, the club crest another, even his lack of grace in 'booing' something (to be confirmed just what he was booing at), sacking a manager that has done very, very well and refusing to pay up the compensation (court case could be interesting and bring out some more of the truth) and now this! A few days ago I had the thought that the Cardiff fans deserved what they are getting, after all, the majority welcomed the initial changes with open arms as PL football was promised, and that was the holy grail for enough fans to not make too much of an argument. Today however, I am feeling somewhat sorry for them. Tan is an absolute embarrassment for the club, and making a mockery of the club, fans and football in general.
Delighted to have a thread devoted to Mr Tan. Mind you, it lowers the tone somewhat to start it off with something from Metro -- especially when the author has a poorer command of the English language than Vincent Tan -- quote "Eight is a respected number in Malaysia, and Tan in particular has a keen likening to it" . Even were this "report" true, rather than some malicious rumour-mongering by someone who wants to see Tan discredited, superstition is anyway no novelty. What matters is who Cardiff appoint in place of Malky, and who the club sign. If Tan decides that every player's salary should be a large multiple of eight, there won't be a problem (except for other clubs who will have to hastily check which of their top players might be a target).
You don't need to remind me of superstitions, I live in a country where there is a lucky colour for each day of the week, where mystically numbers appear in the bark of trees that give the recipient the lucky number for the lottery etc - it's all total rubbish Just how true it is Robbie, I am not certain, but it was originally mentioned on the Sunday Supplement show on Sky TV (or something like that). The context may possibly be in question, but even if it was to be a flippant comment or a joke by VT (which I am inclined to not believe), it would not surprise me if this train of thought is what goes on inside this guys rats maze of a brain. He changed the colour to the 'lucky' colour, so doing something bizarre as signing players with an 8 in their birthday, cannot be written off as never being a distinct possibility. What I am beginning to think is that he has had his way throughout most, if not all, of his business life and has simply done what he wants, when he wants and where he wants. When you have money in Asia, this is very common, and what is more common is that employees will not question anything, and just accept their lot for an easy life. To that end, I think he is of the opinion that this is what should also happen here. It is even possible that Malky voiced an opinion about something to his disliking, which may have led to the collapse of their relationship, long before the 'overspending' saga began. Malaysia is not far removed from a dictatorship (which is one reason that corruption is rife in the country), and anyone of any authority is not typically directly questioned (even worse in Thailand in respect of not questioning authority although the corruption is a little less rampant). I suspect he is going to have to learn to listen to the people for a change, and I would also guess he is not going to be able to do this very easily and possibly not at all. His reputation in Malaysia has already been tarnished and he is a source of embarrassment in his home country now.
I recognise similar attitudes from my experience in Indonesia and Vietnam. In these countries, the boss is king and whatever he (and it usually is a he) says goes. This causes severe problems of lack of initiative in that lower-level workers are unwilling to make any kind of decision, even those which we in the west would think of as trivial ones. These bosses often have very troubled relationships with western workers who will simply not accept their allotted roles. I imagine this may well be part of what is happening with Tan at Cardiff, and specifically in his relationship with Mackay.
It represents the kind of illogical thinking that used to be so prevalent in this country not long ago.We only need to look back a century when virtually everybody believed in God,which is no less crazy than thinking that the number 8 will bring you good fortune.Today my guess is that believers number no more than ten per cent of the population. I don't want to upset other posters over this but it does seem that certain other countries have this "backward" attitude. And it's not racial because I would include the USA in that.religion will fade and in a hundred years our descendants will look back on it much as we look back on Victorian spiritualism now. As for Tan,he is clearly an uneducated man who has made a lot of money.Like most self made men his success has been largely fortuitous.I say that as one from a poor background who has done ok by being in the right place at the right time.He isn't mad but his money has enabled him to plough his own furrow. There is clearly an element of narcissism in his personality.Expect more fireworks and the Cardiff adventure to end in tears.Whoever takes the job on will be expected to deliver success. We all know that in football today you can do that with enough money and a slice of luck. The new manager is going to need both.
It is not racial in anyway CT, life in Thailand is about 60 years behind the western world, as is Cambodia, and Laos. Just the way the average person thinks is so backward, in just about every part of life - it's really scary. Education standards are quite low. Things we take for granted - good roads, electricity, clean water and so on, are scarce in many rural locations, and still non-existent in some
Sounds good to me! If they sign players based purely on the no 8 then they could well be signing all sorts of crap, thus filling one of the dredded bottom three spots?
For what it's worth, I think it's currently around 50:50 religious:non-religious in the Uk, but of that religious 50%, I believe markedly fewer practice their religion, but don't have a figure for that. It probably also includes people who say they're religious for a quiet life. Back on topic, anyone fancy seeing if some of the dross in our squad suddenly are worth multi-millions to Tan?
£5m+ for Becchio would be a good bit of business, and he was born 28 December 1983 - Perfect fit! Might be worth dangling a worm or two in his direction
I don't think anyone with a modicum of intelligence who has read the bible believes it. as to Tan, it's a shame I can't change my birthdate by deed poll, I fancy the huge paycheque Mr Tan would supply me for being born on the 8.8.1988.
Princess Beatrice was born on 8/8/88 - are we going to see her at full-back for the return fixture against Cardiff?
I have heard about the question of the goalies lack of goals, but even I think that might be stretching the truth.........however....................who knows
You had me very confused as to which board I was on for a moment there.... Turns out there's actually quite a number of Pro footballers born 8/8/88... GK: Maxim Copeliciuc (of FC Tiraspol, with 1 cap for Moldova) LB: Yudai Tanaka (J-League 2's Gainare Tottori) CB: Mahamadou Sissoko (Free agent, previously of Kilmarnock and Udinese) CB: Velin Damyanov (Bulgarian, Chrobry Głogów) RB: Ahmed Ali (Misr El-Makasa in the Egyptian Premier League) RB: Igor Smolnikov (could be a genuine target actually, right back for Zenit St Petersburg) RW/ST: Orlin Orlinov (great name, plays for Bulgaria's FC Lyubimets 2007, a snip at £80k according to transfermarkt) CM: Borislav Pavlov (Slivnishki Geroi) ST: Salvatore Loti (Lecce) ST: MatÃas Rubio (Unión La Calera in Chile's Primera División B.) ST: Roland Frőhlich (Hungarian playing for Pécsi Mecsek FC.) I'm a bit lacking in central midfielders, but there's just about a first XI there. I should email it to Tan, that's a squad of 25 year old's now approaching their peak, who would all be very, very lucky.
That Orlin Orlinov will just be their equivalent of our Johnny Johnson.Sure they would agree on the lucky bit, getting weighed out Premiership wages.
