    From Skysports Transfer Centre;

    Reports in a couple of papers this morning claim Tottenham are considering a £4million bid for West Brom striker Shane Long in January. To help fund the offer, The Sun on Sunday suggests that Spurs striker Jermain Defoe will be on his way to Major League Soccer club Toronto FC in a £6million deal.

    £4m? If it is true, and they get him for £4m, I will be seriously pissed.

    Go on Bruce, get him.

    It said they wanted him as back up, so hopefully he doesn't want that and comes to us for a starting spot

    The problem we've got is being able to replace Defoe (supposedly valued at £6m) with someone as good or better. Now don't get me wrong, Defoe doesn't set the world alight, but who can we replace him with for that sort of money? There just isn't a like for like replacement without us spending more.

    No offence to Shane Long, but our striker problems are bad enough as it is at the moment. If we genuinely have top 4 aspirations, Shane long is just not good enough for us, regardless of how few goals we're currently scoring. None of the clubs we've been competing against over recent years would even consider buying him. If this happens, it's just another nail in Daniel Levy's coffin as far as I'm concerned.

    This might sound really harsh, but it's hard enough competing against the oil tycoons as it is. We need genuine top 4 quality, not a gamble. We've taken enough of those.

    Tim Sherwood has to rebuild with having your previous manager spent £100m in the summer. You would have thought you would have got a couple of decent strikers with that!

    I think you made some very good signings in the summer who are being unfairly criticised at the minute. Lamela, a tad expensive but still a raw talent. Eriksson (sp?) is a great technical player and is still very young. I think Long would be a good signing for you, but I think you should try and sign Hernandez from Man Utd on loan.

    There's no way Man United are going to loan him to Spurs.

    They should be looking to find the Long move by selling Jake Livermore to Hull in January. Would make more sense.

    I think we have too. It's a mixture of things that have resulted in things not going to plan, which we've discussed to death on the spurs board.

    but your right, Hernandez is the type of player we need. Although it'll never happen, it's that quality we need to sort out our goalscoring mess. Not Shane Long.

    Maybe not, but they are the type of players Spurs need. Fringe players from the top clubs who could do a job.

    I can see this. Soldado isn't a lone striker, he plays off someone and Long would be a pretty good foil for him.

    Think you are dead right. Our aspirations are to stay in the PL, yours are Top Four. Long might be a good fit for us, but I can't see him in a top 4 side. You need better, and for that you'll need to pay more.

    I suspect this rumour is either complete bollox, or Agent inspired bollox to drive the price up. Unlikely to work in my opinion as his abilities (and limitations) are well known and the Market Price was pretty much set by our move at the end of the last window. Nobody, including Spurs or Hull, are going to pay much more than that, and WBA are unlikely to take much less.
