....... could be bought for a fee within our budget in my opinion. I remember quite a few Sunderland supporters saying we'd missed out when he went to Everton and got off to a good start, scoring on his debut and finishing as Everton's top scorer. He also scored in that shattering FA Cup replay when Everton came up and won 2 nowt. He's a current international, knows the Premier League and is settled here. He's over 6' but very sharp in the box when he's on form. I don't like the idea of bringing in someone from abroad, to 'hit the round running', or taking a chance on a lower league player tbh. Could he be the man if we sign him on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy, and would we have to sign Ki to be able to? Is he a better striker than Altidore for less money?
he looks like another player trying too hard when he gets a chance and/as a result of being bereft of confidence. we have enough of those already in our forward ranks
I would much rather have a fit and sharp Jermaine Defoe raring to get to the World Cup and prove himself - he would be my number one target if we are to show any ambition.
Defoe won't come to the NE in January and we wouldn't pay his wages although I agree that he'd be ideal.
He isn't playing to his potential lately but IMO is better than what we already have, Fletcher aside. The likes of Defoe and even Long will simply not come to a struggling Team based 300 miles away from the bright lights and take a drop in wages. We have to be realistic here lads, it's either going to be a gamble on someone from the lower leagues, abroad, or maybe a loan deal for someone like Jelavic who is looking for games.
Roberto Martinez is weighing up whether to let Nikica Jelavic leave Everton in the January transfer window after confirming two clubs have enquired about the striker. Jelavic moved to Goodison Park from Rangers during the 2012 January transfer window and enjoyed a blistering start to his Everton career by scoring nine goals in 13 appearances. However, he mustered just seven goals in 37 Premier League games last season and has yet to open his account from eight outings this term. http://www1.skysports.com/football/...a-jelavic-subject-of-enquiries-from-two-clubs ............................................................ He did get of to a flyer like, maybe a change will do him good.
We must sign a striker to replace that plank altidore. Wickham, Ji and Graham are no better, God we have some **** forwards us like
Would have jelavic me. Would be nice to find a gem like michu although he's been quite this season Only cost 2 mill I think. Wickham and graham cost us 13 mill for a measly 2 goal return. So far I haven't been convinced with de Fanti or angeloni. Hopefully that will change.
Be a target again for Hull and will be guaranteed first team football there I reckon on.the plus side they'll probably send Danny Graham back :-|
No to Jelavic, no pace. Any chance of Ba? Otherwise look abroad. Wish we'd got insigne from Napoli, he's been very good this season.
We can only get him on a short term loan so that's 3 months max. We'd probably have to buy him. Would I buy him? Nope, There's no strikers obtainable I particularly want in the premiership at the moment. Perhaps if Utd want to sell Welbeck but I don't think they'll be looking to sell him in January.
Me neither. We have Borini, who was good yesterday ......... we have Fletcher who scored ......... we have Altidore who is only short of confidence. Most of our relegation rivals would kill for those three tbh. Let's just get them all playing and we'll be fine without shelling out on another chancer like Wickham.
We need another pacey option for somewhere along that front three. Borini is the only pace we've got. I'd leave the st/cf till the summer then take another look then. I'd look to bring in a creative ACM and and a pacey winger/inside forward. If we sign Ki in jan we Could bring in Zaha on loan till the end of the season which could bring the pace. Would probably need to look abroad for a ACM because there's nobody I fancy.
