If a player has 6 months left on there contract or the selling club is in financial hot water we might be able to pick up a bargain. Our players will be in demand this window and even more so in the summer. We will have to bring in one or two big signings to fully convince them to stay put.
I'm surpised we haven't used loans for a while. Imagine if we only got Ramirez on loan until January or the summer! Same with Mayuka.
Surely Pochettino has already made his intentions clear.........and that is he has no interest in bringing anyone in, in this window.....a few out maybe but he did say no one in.
I only want loans if they are here for possible purchase if they are good enough, I want them to play for the shirt and be what we want for the future, not just another hanger on, who needs employment, just to top the squad up.
Why to some people does rhe summer transfer window mean you can't get a good player? They are out there and some will even be available for a good price.
Whenever the topic of January transfers comes up with Pochettino he seems to insist that we won't be making any incoming transfers - I can't tell if this is a bluff or not, but I remember last season him having a pretty similar stance on the January window (although he was only here for half of it). I feel we could do a with a centre back who could cover at left back, as I think our highest priority should be a third high quality centre back, as Yoshida and Hooiveld don't quite seem up to our high defensive standards this season. I do think we need someone who can cover Shaw as Fox obviously isn't up to the job, although it takes a whole load of injuries for him to get a game, and I doubt we'll have another game this season with 2/4 full backs injured.
Yep same was being said last summer and we tried to get a player on loan. But Piatti got injured so the loan didn't happen.
JWP and Cork are set to play tomorrow instead of Schneiderlin and Wanyama and you can hardly wish for better players to deputise, so I'd say no additions are neccesary in that deparment. My priority, in this order, would be; cover for left back, center back to play alongside Lovren (if he can get Fonte out of the team, mind you), and an attacking minded player similar to Lallana, one who is equaly confortable playing on either side or behind the striker. It would be great if we could fill these positions, but if I am to pick one, it would be left back. No more Fox, please!
I cannot see us adding another keeper just because some of ours are injured, it has been unfortunate that two got injured at once. With Boruc on the mend and Davis back in training I don't see us strengthening here.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is not looking for new signings during the January transfer window. Pochettino improved his squad during the summer by spending big to sign defender Dejan Lovren, midfielder Vincent Wanyama and striker Dani Osvaldo. The Argentinian has been rewarded with a fine first half of the season, which saw Southampton challenge at the top end of the table before slipping back to ninth in recent weeks. And, rather than pep up his squad with fresh additions in the New Year, Pochettino will instead put his faith in the young players already at his disposal at St Mary's. "We're not really concerned with the transfer window," said Pochettino ahead of Sunday's game against Everton. "We're really happy with the young players that are part of this team. "We're really happy that they are partaking in training sessions with the older players and that they're getting a feel for what it is to be in the senior side. "That gives us a very important equilibrium, a balance in the team, and we're really happy with their contribution, so we're not really looking at the transfer window."
I'm not suggesting we do so as some of ours are injured, I'm suggesting it as really neither of our replacements for Boruc are good enough.
Goalkeeper position is not an immediate concern for me. Boruc will be back soon, and keepers are rarely injured, it's very freakish we had two injured at the same time. But it's something I would take a look at in the summer. Davis will probably retire and Gazza is not good enough. So we should preferably sign a young goalkeeper who will replace Boruc eventually, but one who can hold his own in the EPL, unlike Gazza. McCarthy from Reading seems a sensible choice. If we don't find someone like that, we should sign, or take on loan, a seasoned and experienced goalkeeper for a year or two, player like Schwarzer/Jussi/Friedel, someone like that.
