Blackthorn celebrate Liverpool win Twenty years on from beating Liverpool at Anfield. please log in to view this image FA Cup giantkilling memories will flood back on January 4th when City play Watford in the third round. Twenty years after beating Liverpool at the same stage of the competition, players from Bristol City FCâs original 1994 team will once again be setting foot on to the pitch to celebrate the anniversary of one of the clubâs most historic events. The reunion is all down to Blackthorn Cider, who sponsor the club today and did so in 1994. As the underdogs, City went on to beat Liverpool after a replay at Anfield with a goal scored by Brian Tinnion, who will be joined in the anniversary celebrations by former team-mates. Stars from the Anfield win will form a guard of honour for the modern day players as they walk out, setting foot on to the pitch together for the first time in years. In recognition of their achievement, the current players will also wear the original 1994 purple and lime kit as they warm up on the pitch before the match, hoping some of the glory will rub off! Andy Cross, Blackthornâs marketing manager, said: âAs sponsors then and now, we thought it would be great for the fans if we celebrated what was arguably the most memorable occasion in the clubâs history. "We spoke to the club to see if it was possible as many of the players have moved away and not kept in touch. But through various means we have been able to track down the majority and itâs great that they will be taking part in the celebrations. It should be a great day with memories flooding back. "As we have had an association with the Club that goes back to the game against Liverpool, we really wanted to be part of the 20th Anniversary celebrations so we have marked the occasion by branding all our drink pumps âLegendsâ for the match against Watford. It means that fans can literally toast their heroes from â94." Brian Tinnion, who returned to the club to head up youth recruitment earlier this year, said: "Twenty years ago we pulled off the kind of giantkilling the FA Cup is known for. âI remember scoring the winning goal at Anfield and always get asked about it when the FA Cup third round comes around. The memory will never go away and it will be great to catch up with the lads who were in the team that famous night.â As part of the Anniversary celebrations, Blackthorn is offering two lucky fans the chance to win a VIP ticket in the hospitality suite at the game against Watford and the opportunity to lead the players out before the match. Please visit Bristol Cityâs twitter feed @bcfctweets for more details. Fans will also have a chance to win a yearâs supply of Blackthorn in a competition at half-time. Blackthorn Cider is the biggest supporter of sport in the city. The brand, based in Shepton Mallet, sponsors Bristol City FC, Bristol Rovers FC and Bristol Rugby Club. I was there as well, me and my brother was rat arsed. And he got arrested for chucking a sausage roll at me. He told me they has the nicest cells and he could watch the match via CCTV
The purple and green away kit is part of our history - something not to be sold to an overseas buyer for short-term gain I'll be there for the Watford game (and Stevenage) when we will be wearing .............. RED
Interested to know? Are you happy to play premiership football at the expense of your history and tradition?
Cardiff fans have no morals, it's clear to see how they let Vinny tan change their kit colour and their logo
I was there for the home game (draw) - couldn't make the away trip. But will be there for the Watford game.
I remember being at the Gate when the club revealed the new away kit....3 guys skydived into the stadium and revealed the purple in all it's glory. Half the crowd started singing "what the f#cking, what the f%cking, what the f*cking hell is that?" It was hilarious!
Twat it was our away kit, you know the one you change when you play away. Unlike you lot who changed your home kit to your away kit to occasionally use it
I was there along with our own private coach full, running out of beer by the time we hit Gloucester!! Has to go down as one of the best nights in our history..
I was a Deputy Shift Manager working nights during the (rearranged) game at AG so had to listen to it on the radio. The Shift Manager went to it (the AG game). As soon as it became clear that we had earned a replay at Anfield I checked the work schedule and found I was on nights again! I filled out a holiday application form for the Shift Manager to approve. As soon as he got back to the office, the Shift Manager ripped my application up, threw it away and submitted his own. I was not best pleased - I had rank pulled on me. STILL ANGRY!!!
