    If he said that then it's most certainly a joke or you've misheard.

    Gary Neville I assume. Clough is dead. His son manages Sheffield United.

    He is joking or taking the piss. Although Hull is probably more affluent than Grimsby.

    • "Over 5 million people live in the most deprived areas in England and 38% of them were poor
    • Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Manchester, Knowsley, Hull, Hackney and Tower Hamlets are the local authorities with the highest number of areas among the most deprived in England
    • The most deprived areas are in cities - 98% in fact"

    Having stayed in Newcastle under Lyme when we played Stoke once, I reckon that it might be up there with the worst of 'em.

    The simplest tests for deprivation these days is to determine which areas have the greater concentration of the following:

    1, obese single mothers still in their teens;
    2, cannabis-smoking, unemployed men with tattoos on the neck; and
    3, individuals that have appeared on the Jeremy Kyle show.

    Definitely taking the piss. Particularly as he is probably a Manc which probably is the most affluent area in the North When I first came up here I used to have cases in Hull. It's one of a number of towns or cities that estate agents would market as 'full of potential for DIY enthusiasts'. Trouble is they always lie or don't tell the whole story that you'd want to demolish and clear up first The drive across on the M62 passes towns with names that say it all such as Goole. It's flat and dreary with only one of three major power stations on the horizon until you reach the industrial areas of Hull and Grimsby either side of the Trent. Again two names which tell you all you want to know about the places themselves. Why else would the nickname "Kevin from Grimsby" be the defining moment of Bruce Forsyth's performances in Strictly this year?

    My favourite holes in the South on the other hand are probably Slough, Dartford and Chatham. The latter is one of those towns where the planners saw nothing but gain to put a flyover through the town centre but then could not understand why the town itself died around the concrete.

    You definitely aren't wrong about Slough mate. I reckon Betjeman was spot on when he called for 'Friendly bombs' to fall.

    You sure he didn't say "isn't the most affluent"?
