Heard from a fairly reliable source that MJ has put in a bid for a goalkeeper,
    C Somogyi,a 27yr old Hungarian,anyone else heard.Would not have thought this
was our priority. Not only that who goes "Swartz" or Stockdale.whoever goes,
the remaining one possibly stays on the bench. All if true seems very strange.

If one of our keepers had to go, obviously the majority would hope it would be big Mark. Stockdale looks to have an incredibly bright future in the game, and I really hope he gets more first team action this year.

Can I ask who your source is roscafre? And also does anyone happen to know anything about this keeper? Is he considered to be much better than schwarzer or stockdale?

I've seen this in the press today (not that they can be considered a reliable source as discussed on other threads). I'm afraid I've literally never heard of the guy. Apparently Jol tried to sign him when he was at Ajax and when he failed indicated that would he would renew his interest in the future.

Heard it from one of the staff down at MP,initially enquired any news on signings,
and this guy was mentioned.Never heard of him,if he was top notch I would have thought
some "prem" club would have snatched him up by now.

Just found out that Schwartzer has had a groin operation, although that in itself shouldn't be behind this. Might explain why his kicking was awful last season though.

Prefer to believe it's sloppy press reporting as others have said. It just doesn't make sense.

Cheers Roscafre for letting me know. Like most others here I have never heard of him and also feel that goalkeeping is one of our few positions in the squad (along with our centre halfs & wingers) where few little (if any) changes need to be made. Indeed, I would rather that we are in the market for a keeper to challenge stockdale if schwarzer were to leave. I feel that we should do all we can to get the best out of stockdale and that starts with making him no.1. If Schwarzer is consequently unhappy, which would be totally understandable then we should allow him to move on. He's a top keeper whos given us everything he's got but sometimes you have to look to the future.

roscafre, there are all sorts of reasons why someone doesn't move to the Premier League earlier, and goalkeepers mature late - we all think of Stockdale as a promising young goalkeeper, but he's only 1 year younger than Somogyi. I wouldn't dismiss him on the grounds that he hasn't moved over here before now.

Also, we've had comments before along the lines of 'a coach at Motspur Park told me that...' which haven't come true. I'm not saying you're wrong, but even an apparent inside line like this doesn't make it necessarily so. Back in January we heard a whisper from the training ground that the club was in for Charlie Austin of Swindon, and nothing happened there, then he moved to Burnley. We'll wait and see.

Robespierre, you're right. The priority should be holding on to Stockdale, even if that means letting Schwarzer go. If Schwarzer has recovered from his injury in time for the start of the league season, our European commitments would mean that dividing the goalkeepers between Schwarzer for the league and Stockdale for the cups, at least until Christmas, would actually give both of them a similar amount of game time and might satisfy professional pride/ambition/ego for all concerned.

Hi. Gills fan here. We've heard that you are loaning us Neil Etheridge for the season. If thats true, that would make another space for a keeper for you.

Morning Vinney, Etheridge is well thought of at Fulham. I'm glad to hear that the club might be giving him a bit of experience elsewhere.

Do you think he's likely to start if the loan happens, or is he just going to be sat on the bench? If he plays, it would be great if you could give us the occasional progress report on how he's doing. Thanks.

Undoubtedly he will be first choice as we have a young promising keeper in Darren Hawkes who is going to be our back up keeper. If we get Neil I will post my thoughts on him from time to time, and I understand from a Fulham fan at work that Neil Etheridge has just signed a new deal at Fulham, so it seems logical that you will send him out on loan , because he will get a better grounding in the hurly burly of League 2 than he ever will in reserve team football of the premiership.

Good news for Etheridge if he gets a loan to get some game time.

He sounds like he wants Jol to be his adopted father. Doesn't matter where Jol went, he wanted to follow him. Not for me thanks.

Another keeper being linked with us is Cameroonian Carlos Kameni of Espanol:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Fulham-close-2m-goalkeeper-Carlos-Kameni.html

I'm puzzled by these goalkeeping connections. Could the plan be to loan out both Etheridge and Stockdale next season, with Stockdale going to another Prem or Championship club - say Birmingham if Foster goes to Villa? That would mean bringing a fourth keeper, initially as cover for Schwarzer but in a year or two as competition for Stockdale. Either that, or is Schwarzer going to get his wish of joining Arsenal at the age of 38?

    Like you fulhamish,somewhat bemused,another goalkeeping name. ?
Even the papertalk rumours have dried up on transfers, surely Jol is not
going with the existing, before he dips his toe in the Jan window.

Hope not roscafre esp with our paucity of fullbacks.

I know this stuff about goalkeepers is all rumour but the leads must be coming from somewhere. All a bit worrying given that Somogyi and now the latest one are 'unknowns'. Unlike most teams in the prem we have 3 top guys, why would we contemplating any of this? Okay I can understand Etheriidge so is it as simple as getting a third string cover on the cheap?

Maybe there should a different stragegy to keep our 3 main guys happy by re-introducing a proper reserve tem with proper fixtures.
