    Till end of next season.
    It's on SSN.
    A good move IMHO.
    Thoughts?

This whole saga has been very weird. I still can't see why AVB was shown the door when you look at how they were doing compared to other prem seasons. Tim Sherwood is a very risky appointment as he is untried. Might work but I see more turbulent times ahead for the spuds. Before tonight I was confident of top 8 finish for us. I think this appointment makes a top 7 finish an even more achievable aim for us than it was.*

*Having said that, watching the Arsenal v Chelsea game, maybe we should be aiming even higher - make us look even more like Brazil than our away kit does!

I think his appointment will prove to be a good move for them.

Could be seen as a gamble, but is it any more of a gamble than appointing another foreign coach or going back to someone like Hoddle.

Sherwood is a well respected coach, a club-man, and rather than bringing someone new into the club, with yet more disruption, he'll provide the stability they need.

He seems very arrogant to me. Especially for someone that's achieved absolutely zip in management.

A bad appointment for Spurs but a good one for us.

If they'd said until the end of the season he'd have bitten their hand off! ;)

You're only as good as the team you manage, it isn't really his team so he'll be wanting to bring his own players in. More spending and no guarantee that he'll be a success. Time alone will tell.

I don't think there will be much to spend... Levy has already stated that Spurs "have a great squad" today and pointed out that all that was missing was the "Coach they deserve" <laugh>

Spurs will drop like a stone!

I for one don't think it'l work, reminds me too much of a 'King Kenny' with Liverpool sort of situation. These appointments rarely work out, they are generally used to please the fans and raise morale in the short term but in the long term it tends to go down the pan!

Abandoning the 'big name only' rule a lot of clubs seem to abide by.

He hasn't been named Manager - He's not qualified and doesn't have a pro-license to manage in the PL!
That's why he'll have another title of some kind, that's the loop hole.

Shocking decision in my opinion, the guy has no experience whatsoever and comes across so arrogant.

He's a good move because he's not a big name? Really?

How is Sherwood a bad appointment?

Bearing in mind its late December, good club managers/coaches are tied up with good clubs for the season and any decent National Team coaches are going to the World Cup. So managers are not exactly falling off the trees into Levy's lap.

Personally I think Levy did a Freddie Shepard and sacked AVB, thinking he'd have no problem in getting a top coach as a replacement.
Reality quickly sunk in and they could'nt get who they wanted, so Plan B was Sherwood.

Ask yourself the question who could they have appointed who would be any better.

    Anyone with managerial experience surely?

I've heard its 18 months not until the end of the season but I could be wrong.

This isn't dichotomous. He's a complete unknown, and it's pretty difficult to say with certainty what sort of appointment this is, other than a pretty risky one. But given the circumstances, Tottenham's current stature and expectations, who he is replacing - and effectively preferred to - it's not very impressive.
