from BBC... Soaring Suarez sends Liverpool top What happened? A day after signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez scores twice in a 3-1 win at Cardiff to send his side top of the Premier League table. His two-goal haul continued a remarkable campaign for the Uruguayan, which has seen him in record-breaking scoring form despite missing the opening six games as he completed a suspension for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in April. Suarez stats: Suarez has now scored at least twice in five Premier League games at Anfield in a row. He has 19 goals in 13 games in all competitions this season. He has scored 10 goals in December in the Premier League; more than any player has ever managed in a single month. What they said: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers on BBC Match of the Day: "Luis is really happy at the moment, and his performance again was outstanding, he is a remarkable man and player." Cardiff manager Malky Mackay on BBC Match of the Day: "Luis Suarez showed why he is just about the best player in the world right now." Play media Suarez is a remarkable man - Rodgers BBC pundit Robbie Savage on MOTD2 Extra: "I would say Luis Suarez is the second best player in the world with Lionel Messi currently injured. But if Liverpool do not get in the Champions League, will the second or third best player in the world want to play in the Europa League?" Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 live: "I have been so impressed by Luis Suarez on many occasions this season, but that was his most impressive moment for me. He had a 90% chance of scoring himself, but he knew Raheem Sterling had a 100% chance of scoring if he passed to him." BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker: "Always the same when a player signs a new contract. They go completely off the boil. Only two goals for Luis Suarez in the first half." Reaction from #bbcfootball on BBC live text commentary: Richard Powell: Running out of superlatives for Luis Suarez. Scorer, creator, tormentor. Priceless. Morelli Junior: Suarez is the best player in the world right now by a country mile. Ryan Kerr: Behave Suarez! As a Man United fan it pains me to say this... But Suarez is just too good. On fire recently.
Bigging us up ready for a fall are the media. I thought we would finish 6th at the start of the season.
agreed bow, (where you been hiding anyway?) I had us down for 5th to 7th before the season kicked off so anything more will be a bonus, but I will admit that brs "project/vision" is way ahead of where i expected.
Start of the season I thought 5th. Now I think 1st (or 4th) P.S. What's a TGE Season? Some yank term?
Interesting I want to see where we are after city and Chelsea, as in the spring we will have city, Chelsea, arsenal spurs, Everton, newkie to all come to anfield. I still worry about going to the lesser teams in the spring as they will be clawing to stay in the prem but hopefully we will be on a roll.
I've always felt fourth was very much within our reach. Spuds bought too many players to gel until at least Christmas, United are shocking and lost Fergie. I thought City, Chavski and Arsenal would be ahead of us and Everton just behind...but this is going well
the TGE season is a combination and result of a messy Xmas party weekend reminds me...... just wash cock again.
You ****ing watching me? Knocked one out earlier, and the Mrs came back with a Cheese board and 2 bottles of mount gay rum, clearly wanting some cock tonight - cracked the rum open and can't be arsed to jump in the shower so I've just had the cock wash
I voted, but I didn't read start at the season (I'm a lazy, fat American, forgive me) At the start, I thought CL at best, probable Europa berth.
No problem - If you were about this time last year you would have got pics and everything I'm rather tame these days….
On topic - I'm bargaining now. So far I've got Chelsea win = Crutchless panties and creampie Arsenal win = Facial and swallow I'm trying for the draw = Cum up the arse… She's not agreeing to that though (yet), so I'm a bit torn between who I fancy winning EDIT: Ooops wrong thread
This might be the first season for as long as I can remember that the majority of fans didn't expect/target a top 4 position and we are doing as well as we've ever done in the premier league.
my blog is on this site showing where i thought we'd finish. europa was realistic, cl was a dream. we have only played 17 games... how many times have you lot seen teams do well and fade away? we've won nothing. enjoy it on christmas cos i'll be sticking up the table on the old teletext a few times but after that we've a long way to go to sustain this.
My expectations weren't based on league positions/qualification - it was based on points which I think is a better way to measure progress from year on year. The points required to reach certain positions fluctuates so I think it's an unreliable measure to use. Rodgers improved our points tally last season by about 9-10 points. Quite significant increase. This got us to 61. This year - natural progression would dictate that we should improve by another 9-10 points which would take us to 70 points. This is getting close to CL territory. I think 20 points in 2 years is a significant achievement. However, as this season wears on - it's clear that all of the challengers are struggling for consistency. Man City, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs and Man Utd are going through a transition period. This is a great time for us to capitalise. So my target has somewhat changed - I want us to get 70+ which is certainly achievable given our fantastic start and we're currently getting 2 points a game. And there are strong indications that FSG will support Rodgers in the January market to further boost our squad in addition to our lack of continental fixtures, we should be fresh!
i expected 5th - 6th with maybe 4th if things went our way, so far they have so top 4 finish is now the target i am hoping we acheive, this title malarkey is nothing but a dream at the moment sadly, last time a team that wasn't in the top 3 won the title was 21 yrs ago, for us to emulate that coming from 7th would be a fecking miracle. depends on the owners in jan i suppose as its def **** or bust time with Luis and top 4 finish or he will be off, will the owners give Brendan the cash he needs for players? guess we will see where we end up, hopefully top4, but agree with Brendan its City title to lose.
They have to in my opinion. Yes - we've had a very good start but our squad needs more quality if we want to sustain our good form. Rodgers has taken us to the top of the league - this should be clear evidence to FSG that he knows what he's doing, and that they should back him. I think we will bring in 3-4 players - 3 of which who can come straight into the first team. The other being Will Hughes.
