Ben got me thinking about curry with his Vindaloo comments. We've all got a favourite but who's been a clever **** and ordered a Phal just to impress and later regretted it as you've shat for hours leaving your arse like a Rovers Rosette. I never done more than a Vindy but **** me I regretted it. Khyber it was, got the hiccups after about 2 mouthfulls, then the sweats then stomach cramp, ruined the night. On another note who's going to create a culinery delight with Xmas dinner leftovers. Sprouts for a bit of Bubble and Squeak is always a winner. Back to curry, let's have your worst experience. Don't be afraid to be too graphic as we're all friends on here.:emoticon-0107-sweat

Kebabs are the food of the Gods. After about 12 pints and at 2am obviously.

I've had loads of phaals. I once had one in London when we were the only diners in there and all the kitchen staff came out to watch me eat it. I got a round of applause when I finished.

    Factual story.

I like a hot curry, but i've never dared try a phaal. I do like a vinda though, the hottest curry i ever had was madras, which is arse about face.

I enjoy a good madras. I've never seen the appeal of eating something that is clearly causing pain as you eat it, whilst muttering "cor this is bloody lovely, bit spicey mind but going down a treat". Sweat poring off forehead, each mouth a grimace and forced swallow. No, you look like a twat, stop it.

I've had a mouthful of a Phal once, after me dad ordered it and forgot to mention it. He just wolfed it down, I had a taste and felt like my mouth was being napalmed. I asked the waiter if he had owt for it, he laughed and said "sure, fire extinguisher there" and walked off laughing.

Yes Madras for me though Jalfrezi or a Rogan Josh can sometimes do the trick. I have a mate who eats curries 4/5 times a week and reckons he has a Magmaloo(hotter than a Phaal apparently). He will probably die young<wah>

Not such a fan of mega hot curries as I think it spoils a meal, but I'm generally game for a raw chili challenge, and have eaten some described as the worlds hottest chilies. They're above military pepper spray on the scoville scale.

One theory I read is that it's impossible to get a burn from chili, as it isn't hot, it's just the capsaicin that tricks the body's senses into thinking it is. I've yet to achieve that state of Nirvana that moves my mind over that matter.

I make a mean jalfrezi for me and tikka masala for the wife. Partial to a madras as well

Absolutely true - capsaicin causes no physical damage whatsoever, it just stimulates heat nerves. I did try a Phaal many years ago but it just tasted bitter - a bit like chicken soaked in Dave's Insanity Sauce. Madras and Vindaloo though are great when done well.

And for anyone who reckons kebabs are only for 2am after 12 pints, try Rusholme and Fallowfield in Manchester. I lived off the kebabs there at uni in the 90s and still make a pilgrimage back every few months. They are the best!

Hate curries, had one in Brum (which suppose is one of the better cities to get on in) - they are far too spicy (reminds me of the joke in Goodness Gracious me when the four Indians go into a English Takeaway and ask for the blandest food they have). I prefer a nice Chinese instead, lemon chicken or chicken with spring onion and chilli (had that in Warwick once)

Rays place at 2am is food of the gods.

If you like kebabs then kurdistan down spingbank is worth a visit. And for those of you that feel uncomfortable around immigrants, they do take out.

I love hot food. Usually order a vindaloo. I've ordered a phal twice. From raj pavilion. The second time I ordered, as soon as I opened the front door, the delivery driver (with a huge grin on his face) said who's ordered the phal? He was more excited than me.

For those who like hot curry try the scorcher at duke in ferriby. You get a badge and certificate for eating it. It's pretty hot!

Heard some real scare stories about "added ingredients" put into curries when being served to gobby customers and pissheads. Never upset an Indian waiter.

I had some chicken wings in Leeds a few weeks ago, they came in a variety of flavours Jerk, BBQ, Hot and 'Insanity'. These are the hottest bastard things I have ever tasted, this was a real life man v's food challenge. I was with several work colleagues, we all pride ourselves on the ability to take hot food - no chance. These wings were not fit for human consumption!
