If there has been a £2m bid it is a piss take.

    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-articles/qpr-2m-bid-steven-taylor-reported/?

While there has been much talk of loans in and out, it is now reported that QPR have bid £2m for Steven Taylor.

The reports go on to say that while Harry Redknapp has offered £2m for the Newcastle defender, United are looking for £5m for the out of favour central defender.

The story has been broken in the Express and has followed numerous claims/counter-claims that Taylor was/wasn’t going to Loftus Road on loan.

If you wanted to put two and two together then you might guess that Taylor’s inclusion in the under 21 team that faced Norwich on Friday, could have been a chance for Taylor to show his fitness to any potential suitors.

At the moment Steven Taylor is clear fourth choice at centre-back, the daft red card and four goal hammering at Manchester City summing up the player’s season, his one and only appearance.

At the minute Taylor isn’t even getting on the bench which for a player who has been an almost permanent fixture over the years, when fit, must be hard to take.

If indeed a move to QPR is in the offing then that will then no doubt lead to fans wondering about the possibility of any deal involving Remy signing permanently for Newcastle.

Ten days to go until the transfer window opens and as we all know things can, and usually do, change quickly where Newcastle United are concerned and by then we could have had a couple of freak injuries and Taylor’s back in the first team.

    We shall see.

To be fair, his injury record is now shocking and no matter how much you rate the 'local-lad' factor, his form hasn't been as good the last 2 seasons.

He's back from injury and not even on the bench. Based on current form of the squad, that's probably fair enough.

If it involves securing Remy on a permanent deal, then I think we have to at least consider it.

Think it may be a good deal all round - he must be on the higher end of our wage structure and with him being 4th or even 3rd choice which wouldn't warrant the wage. Maybe £2M and him off the wages and a 21 year old replacement for £2M on a 1/4 of his wage would make good business sense!

2m is a derisory bid for me. That said I don't think he is sort after commodity because of the injury record. His wages must be fairly high (40k?). The thing is I like that we have 4 centre backs all with good experience. I'd prefer just to keep them all.

If it involved Remy though, its sorely tempting.

I've always been a fan of Saylors and I'd be very sorry to see him go still.

I like him too AB and would like to him stay. But Ashley will see it purely as business. During Ashley's time, he's probably paid Saylor as much for being on the treatment table (plus cost of all the treatment/physio staff etc) than for being on the pitch. I can see him thinking it's a way of reducing payroll & physio costs.

Looking at it from Ashley's point of view. Why keep a player on say £40k a week when he doesn't even get a place on the bench. You may as well flog him, reduce the wage bill and recruit a younger, more hungry and cheaper model.
