I had a suspicion that your idea that he's the best CB at the Club was partly borne out of sympathy for what happened his Mum. There were others too who were saying similar things at the start of the season. Obviously its terrible what happened the lads mother but we must strive to be as objective as possible at all times. As I said on the Leicester Board Grift, he's coming along nicely but he has it all yet to prove.
I must admit, I'd completely forgotten about his personal situations when I initially suggested he's our best CB. You made a valid point about how long he's performing well for- I couldn't remember specifically when his performances started to pick up. Then the death of his mum sprung to mind. When did he switch from RB to CB for us? that also coincided with a drastic upturn in consistency. On the pre-season QPR Podcast a lot of the contributors predicted Onouha would be our player of the season 13/14, so there must've been positive signs during the 2nd half of last campaign. Wish I'd added a poll now, Hill/Dunne/Onyewu/Onouha!
Fair play to you Grift, you make some good points there bro. I would however say that he's not the best CB we have, in fact he's not even the second best we have...........................yet. Who was our Premiership player of the season last year??? I've no doubt the kid will make it but I think we should hold off on such accolades until he's actually proved it over a period of time. He was quite shaky for a long time after we signed him, whether at RB or CB and had to be dropped by both Hughes and Redknapp. We're nearly half way through the season now and he'll probably feature much more between now and May. I'll access him then but I like what I've seen from him so far this term. Pity he got injured when he did. Good on you Grifter and cheers for the article above mate.
Cheers Grif, that's an excellent article. When Onouha first came into the side at r/b he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. He would get ten yards into the oppositions half and freeze. ( Anyone remember v Swansea at home last season? ) There was never any over-lapping runs to try and get a ball into the box or to try and stretch the defence. When you think how Simpson is doing at right back this season you realise that Nedum was never suited for that position. However, since Harry has reverted him to a centre back he looks more comfortable and accomplished. Hopefully he can overcome his fitness problems and come back again even stronger. If he does he will be a future Rangers captain. Of that I have no doubt.
Thanks grift, good post. Ive always been a fan of his & if memory serves me right, he's always been a CB. Hughes tried to play him RB and it made him look bad. Anyone who's ever played at Cb/sweeper role will tell you its a completely diffrent game. You are not just a defender. I think back to Matty Rose & even Clint who are great CB's but very ordinary when played out of position. Anyway, no coincidence that once he got back to his rightfull position he progressed well. Im glad he's want to be wanted as he could have easily gone the other way and screwed it all up on his mothers passing. To me, he seems like a decent bloke and one of the only thing Hughes got right. He's got some top experience players mentoring him right now & if he takes it all in, he's going to be awesome! So I'm happy...Our "New Paul Parker" is progressing very nicely thank you.
To be fair I think that him and Richard Dunne run it pretty close to being our best cb, I think he is better than hill (as much as I love him) as he also tries to get forward and spread the play whereas hill just lobs it up there
Funny this 999's, I don't disagree but sometimes but also depends on what the manager has told him, ie don't go past the winger I'm worried about the speed of the counter attack from Swansea. Shame he's been injured this season, I saw this season as a learning year for him as CB, with quality experience in the shape of Dunne and Hill to teach him how to lead the line. I think he could be foundation which we build our defence on for several years but I'm still a little unsure he can lead the back four and needs someone along side who can.
You see this is the kind of thing I just don't get. Its just totally off the wall. He's not even the best CB at the Club (or 2nd best IMO) and he's being touted for England! Have you missed the entire season Totally? Because if you haven't you'd realize that the main reason we've conceded just 10 goals in 20 games is largely down to Dunne. Just ask our Manager who our defensive system is based around and he'll tell you straight! I got Grifter wrong in this regard but there's definitely some people that are judging this guy with emotion rather than rationale. He's not a local lad so the only thing I can put it down to is his mother's passing. Can't think of anything else.
Onuoha Facts ‏@OnuohaFacts 19m Nedum Onuoha painted the Mona Lisa at nursery in an art session #OnuohaFacts
Arry' identified Leicester's pace as a cause for concern in he PreMatch Presser, so I reckon we'll see Nedum from the start tomorrow.
My opinion can hardly be classified as off the wall, Swords. I happen to rate him very highly, I also rate Dunne and to a lesser extent, Hill. But it is my opinion. In the games I have seen (about 50%) he has ben faultless. Before his injury he was a candidate for MOTM (according to me) in every game. If you have somehow read between the lines that I am putting the performances of Dunne down, then you should think again. Why shouldn't he be a future England prospect. Next season, I can see him being regular in our PL team, and therefore an option for the England Coach. I have not considered his personal situation in my judgement. That would be completely ridiculous: As ridiculous as your response to my post.
You sometimes speak sense Swordsie Boy but in this case you have your 'spouting bollox' head on . The fact of the matter is that when his mother was ill, then his form dropped dramatically. With her sad passing, the lad has been able to focus more (quite understandable) and is showing his potential to be a true great. The lad has a lot of skill and strength and he COULD be one of the 'stars' our club.
Sorry mate, i usually agree with you on most things, but you've got this one completely wrong. talent, strength, speed , skill AND continued application all add up to one thing.......?
He "could" be. I'm with you 100% there Staines. But he ain't yet. Queensy, where did I say I didn't think he has what you all say he has? All I'm saying is, to say he's the best CB at the Club is ridiculous. He hopefully will be in the future but at the moment he's not even number two (remember a certain player winning our Premiership player of the season award last year?). Why can't we keep expectations and compliments realistic until players actually prove their talents over a period of time? To be saying these things about him already is way OTT in my opinion. Totally, we've conceded 11 goals in 21 games. Tell me who you think is most responsible for that and then tell me again that Onouha is the best CB at the Club.
Shame he did **** all to prevent that because you'd be sitting pretty with a point, maybe even a win against our boys. I was gobsmacked when he started Dunce and Hill. Vardy caused the all sorts of problems. Do you always play with 1 striker? I thought Austin looked isolated and poor. I think SKY saw the two promotion teams today. It'll be interesting to see who takes the title, after today I know who my money is on. May the best team win.
