Does starting with Johnson lull the full back before Borini comes on?

Could it be a deliberate tactic of Poyets to start with Adam Johnson therefore the full back has nothing to do for about an hour 'switches off' then on comes Borini who can play a bit but the full back then has problems.

I thought that Johnson had one of his better games last night.

i would agree, but I also think after Jose's rumblings about Ki, Gus kept him as his trump card

Borinis energy and pace were key to getting us back into the game

Johnson just seems so awkward when he has the ball, he's got a decent right peg but he never controls the ball with it

You don't hit a ball like he did vs Spurs without having at least decent ability on that foot. Problem is he's just so unwilling to use it, making him so so predictable

I'm in agreement. I've seen enough. He's reportedly our top earner and his performances just don't justify that. Sell him and get a Ince in for cheap in Jan

Daryl Murphy had no feet at all and hit that pearler, sometimes you just get the luck of the connection. AJ is more one footed than Michael Owen (ok harsh <laugh>).

I think Johnson is very average, its a shame but I think everyone believed the hype and in reality he is a decent championship player. Larsson is more effective on the right because although like Johnson he has no pace at least he can cross a ball.

Actually thought he had a decent 30 min spell in the first half too and created a few chances and bits of real quality but faded up to his substitution. he still disappoints but there are flashes of what he is capable of at times.

What if we do this and he turns out to be no better?

Johnson is a good footballer. He's lacking confidence and form but he is a good player.

Poyet has got the best out of others some of our fans had little time for so give him a chance with Johnson.

Personally I'd like to see the Johnson we signed. I know what he is capable of doing as I've seen him do it.

Well if he turns out to be no better he won't be on 60k so it won't be as big a deal.

I've seen Johnson play well and there's no doubting there's quality there, it's just that it's far too rare for him to play well and as our top earner that's not on. Our top earner should be the play who contributes the most, and he certainly does not
