Could you see Ozil coming to us? Cavani wants out at PSG and for me he's probably the World best CF after Ibrahimovic. Plus he would fit our system well. Obvioulsy Suarez is also a good option but it seems unlikely he will leave for another EPL club.
I follow PSG quite a bit since I am swedish (the king of sweden plays there and that's why). And I doubt Cavani will leave because he is finally finding his place in the team and start scoring a lot. I think they are the most efficient partnership in Europe at the moment (so I read in Swedish newspaper - but it might be a bit bias ). A side not about the king of sweden - he is currently the top goal scorer AND top assist in the league. We should get him!
Berbatov would be a useful buy for the remainder of the season. Should be available, will cost <5 million probably, and is technically excellent. Would fit into our system like a glove. Problem is his work-rate, but we know he can work hard when he wants to. I'm pretty sure he'd give us everything for the remainder of this season at least. Would be a useful stop-gap until the summer window opens.
No doubts about his ability - but his attitude is a dangerous factor in taking him on. He is also getting on a bit, in footballing terms, and it would concern me that he may not be able to change his spots..... I think I would generally be against taking him if it were up to me.
Yea his attitude and laziness can be a problem. Though, he seems to be one of those players who has a bit of a honeymoon period at new clubs. He'd probably give us 100% for the first 6 months, and that could be all we need him for. When he tries, he's awesome, so he could potentially have a huge impact. If it doesn't work out, well, a few mill wasted and we go back to using Giroud until he burns out
No, too old, well past his best. I see Costa has been linked to us. Not sold on him, still looks like a one season wonder.
Agree on anelka, he's past his best, i remember watching him at the end of his Chelsea days and thinking he had lost it. Once a quality player but not good enough to be a back-up to Giroud. Saw the Costa rumour as well, £32m transfer in january according to the story. I haven't watched enough of him to make a judgement really, i've seen bits and pieces and he is having a great season with 21 goals in 21 games but no idea if he is worth the money. His goal scoring record before this season was: roughly 1 goal per 2 games (44 apps 20 goals) in 2012/13 (with Falcao being the main man). The season before about 1 goal per 2 games (16 apps, 9 goals). And in the 3 seasons before that his record was about 1 goal per 4 games. And that's from the age of 20-25, so from 20-23 he was getting 1 in 4, 23-24 1 in 2, at 25 1 in 1. So it shows a clear arc of improvement but whether he can sustain his current form is another matter. He is doing very well at the moment but i'd have to watch more of him to saywhether i think it's a good idea or not.
So we wont get Suarez this January then .... http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25463249 (signs a new contract)
i dunno. this contract probably has a real release clause in it (£50m or so) instead of the last one's farcical clause. any club that has champions league and comes in will probably be able to get him without any say-so from liverpool.
I presume there is a release clause to - but I heard that they take time to kick in. I.e his original contract must expire and then a release clause can kick in. I think this is the case with Reus in Dortmund as well.
If there is a clause I doubt it will be £50mil. There is absolutely no reason why we should be expecting anything less than what Bale went for seeing as Suarez is the finished article and is far better than him.
The last time Suarez signed a contract extension he ended up leaving in the very next transfer window
