Disingenous nonsense from FIFPRO. Professional sportsmen (and women) are not normal workers doing a normal job, and they are certainly not represented by unions that operate like those in other industries. One of the main aims and acheivements of a trade union is collective bargaining, but this lot want to manipulate employment law to allow some of their members to profit from personal terms and conditions unique to individuals.
Will allow top players to make even more money, whereas most players will lose job security. Similarly only top clubs will be okay and the rest will be destabilised by losing important players with no chance of the occasional decent transfer fee to keep them going. Can only work at all if no player can move within a season, but that will make the summer incredibly frantic and you can write off preseason training. I suppose you can get used to anything, but be hard to care about players in transit. Also at the moment we can kid ourselves that players love our club as fans do, but not if we know they will have frequent strops and threaten to leave.
I really do not think it will have that much of an impact on salaries. Doesn't a player currently sign a binding contract with the club they are joining for 2,3 or 4 years? In that contract there can be a release clause built in stating a notice period which can be 2,3,or 4 years notice although I would suggest 1 year is the most reasonable. The transfer windows will be gone so that will be a bonus for some clubs. Any contract can be bought out by another club for an agreed (transfer) fee if all parties are in agreement and the player can agree personal terms. So what exactly will change? It seems it will revert to the situation before the transfer windows were introduced.
I guess it doesn't mean that the transfer fee has to be waved......Just if he wants to leave he can. A lot of contracts that I signed during my working life prohibited me form working within a certain radius of my then HQ. Also in some cases I could not have anything to do with certain products. Can't go into it more than that but I think you get the picture.
I think the only way this could work is to have a clause where clubs can charge a fee for players they have brought through their own academy. Otherwise there is no incentive whatever to have academies at all, and the quality of young players will drop off.
I love the fact that footballers are being, "systematically disrespected" around the globe! This guy has obviously never worked a '9 to 5' in his life. Nor does he have much idea about how most people, "around the globe" are forced to live their lives. As usual, the rich few will get richer and the divide will get greater. If the players want to organise then so should the owners and start knocking a few zeros from their salaries. This won't happen of course, especially now with the new breed of mega-rich owner who will happily spend fortunes to buy a quick success.
**** it, im going to do a Tevez today and refuse to go to do my job, just sit on the bench/sofa. Worked for him, still got paid, and as he is classed as "a worker" I must get away with it too
I agree with the above. if it is to be looked at as normal working contract then the clubs should also be able to offer notice. That could well open another can of worms. i.e. if a club like Saints found themselves in the Premier League with a lot of employees that they didn't see as good enough they could offer them notice.
Just had another thought on this. The toll of being relegated would also go up MASSIVELY. Any side who goes down, and their players don't fancy the championship - POP. Hand in your notice, get picked up by a PL club.
Fine, if they want the rights of normal workers. They can be paid the same as normal workers to. Alot of footballers currently get paid weekly what us mere mortals get paid yearly. So they can take a massive pay cut as well then.
Sorry but there are two levels of tripe being talked on here. 1. Normal contracts = salary at a normal working man's wage. Rubbish. If you offer a skill possessed by only a handful of people (RVP, Suarez, Rooney, etc) then you will earn a vast amount of cash as you cannot be replaced by someone who will perform as well.. 2. Normal contracts = change club every few months. Do you, as the possessor of a normal contract of employment, change jobs every few months? No. Vin
