BBC Breakfast reporting talks started to extend Suarez contract.

Thought he wanted out a few months ago.

someone posted a link Guardian i think, after his award ceremony about this happening, so seems to be gathering pace.

i expect a comment from his camp to come out soon that he will wait until Summer to decide his future ie us getting top 4 and cl football.

As good as he is, I'm not sure he is what we need at the moment.

We need a DM and B2B player IMO.

Heart says yes, Head says no ...

My heart says yes and my head says yes for one simple reason....if we want European football for next year then we need to prepare for it. Our squad is way too thin to cope with that right now and having our squad boosted by a player with Alonso's ability and experience would be invaluable. I agree we need extra options elsewhere too but thinking a bit more towards the future what sort of improvements would we see from the younger players if they got to learn from a master? Just because Alonso is getting on a bit it doesn't mean he wouldn't be an investment in the future as well as the present <ok>

  6. I'm like this. Alonso is fantastic and I'd love him to be still at Liverpool. If we re-sign him I will be over the moon. However, I'm not convinced he is what we need and I think there is a little sentiment involved in this from the fans perspective too. I feel we need the Mascherano type more than an Alonso. I'm sure BR will make a decision in the best interests of the club though.

This one isn't going away and there was real interest in him this summer.

Wish these players would just stay put for a bit and develop first!!!

Croatian schemer has been in outstanding form for Unai Emery's side this season, and his good form has seen him heavily-linked with a January transfer.

Manchester United have been touted as one destination - possibly in a double deal alongside Alberto Moreno - as they look to plug their midfield void.

Yet both Liverpool and Chelsea are also understood to hold more than a tentative interest in the talented technician.

And with his contract up in 2015, January represents the last opportunity for Sevilla to get top dollar for the 25-year-old - despite their interest in tying him to a new deal.

However, the club have spent the last 12 to 18 months tightening their belts and sold off four key assets during the summer - Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo joined Manchester City, Gary Medel moved to Cardiff City and French youngster Geoffrey Kondogbia left for Monaco.

And it is that exodus of talent which has played its part in Rakitic's frustration at his current club.

"A football player can never say with certainty that he will remain in his club," he told Slovakian website Nogomania.

"Such is the nature of our business. I'm in Seville for three years now and in this time many things have changed.

"It is clear that in such a big club people can not be satisfied with average results.

"If there is no success, if there are no trophies, frustration grows. Everything has changed."

Nevertheless, Rakitic, who has seven goals to his name this term, has said that he will continue giving everything to his current employers.

"I can assure you that I'm one hundred percent focused on Sevilla and I only think about our next match."

    How about...

    http://www.abola.pt/nnh/ver.aspx?id=448119

Liverpool enter the vast lot of pretenders to the contest and Fernando have already expressed their intention to rely on the average next season is that the entrepreneur , António Araújo . The interest of the English club proves to be a time when Fernando technically prepares to enter the free agent area .

The ' octopus ' is stuck to the Dragons until the end of the season , but under - Bosman Judgment is free to sign for any other club in early January and it is precisely that perspective before this sweet batch of applicants increases with the approach of the end of the year .

FC Porto have managed this with a very judicious silence, but has not lost hope of renewing with the Brazilian player . BALL realized the rapprochement between club and player Fernando and myself have assumed that the door of renewal for Porto is not closed at all. But the truth is that the time starts to dwindle a bit and Brazilian midfielder finds suitors everywhere . ~

The condition of free agent puts you in that position , but there is another very important element to retain , which relates to the Portuguese citizenship which the player has just won . Besides you open the doors of the National Selection and power value with the eventual call to the 2014 World Cup , this assimilation allows the average stay well ahead to position themselves in markets where there are limitations to Non-EU . And England is one of them ...

Yesterday there was talk of Italy in the interest of Fiorentina in Porto player , although the club does not seem to Florence with the financial capacity to reach the wages required by Fernando .

Fernando would be a great signing and is exactly the type of midfielder we need.

One element of signing Alonso - he's in the bracket of Suarez and Gerrard - other potential signings will want to play with him/work with him.

He's also still got all his key attributes. If anything he reached another level at Madrid and for Spain. He's better than Lucas and Allen. So, there's a place in the side.

Only news I've seen is that Madrid fans want him to sign an extension but as of yet it's ongoing. That was this morning though.

Just making the point that he'd be a valuable addition.
