The FA are in a position that is very difficult to resolve. The owners of clubs will be looking at this and wondering if they would be giving up an income stream for the future. They could point to twenty twenty cricket and say why can't we do something with our club names and kits. Rugby League changed its format to suit television. Could club owners say that they do not want to be trapped in the past? We often fight Americanisation but in reality the globalisation of brands is accepted here quite freely. Starbucks and MacDonalds introduced global branding into the High Street and became successes in the UK. We have the contradiction of wanting to introduce a better matchday experience by importing in foreign practices of large flags and smoke and yet we want to hang on to the past. It's strange that the supporters who are old enough to have stood in the terraces, who would find it hard to do now, buy season passes and sit down quite happily. Would they still be going if the KC was standing only? Progress is often measured in financial terms. Sport gets modified and adjusted to "the modern game". Field Hockey, my chosen sport for 35 years, moved to astro turf pitches and away from 3pm starts, it improved the international game but killed off the grass roots. I stopped enjoying rugby when Super League came in. So no matter what the FA decides or when, there is a chance that Professional football in this country will never be the same again. I really just wish that it was another club not ours that was involved.
Just received this from the FA: Thank you for contacting The Football Association. The FA can confirm that it has received a request from Hull City to change its playing name to Hull Tigers from season 2014/15. Requests to change a playing name of a Club are considered under FA Rule A3 (l) and require the prior written permission of the FA Council. As part of the evaluation of the request a consultation process will be undertaken with various stakeholders including supporter groups. At the present moment The FA is not able to provide a timescale for the completion of the consultation process and does not expect to make any further comment until the assessment of the request has been completed. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us with your thoughts and please rest assured that they have been noted. Kind regards Alex Burkwood | Customer Relations Officer Customer Relations The FA Group
It would seem that an early decision would be for the best. CTWD seem to have pushed Allam into making an earlier move than planned. http://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/article/201314-club-statement-name-request-1231934.aspx Haven't seen this statement in the local media, but may have just missed it.
Yesterdays news today... CTWD didn't register another team with the name Hull Tigers, it was just an individual who was against the name change, but don't let the facts get in the way of your ramblings.
Apologies. Unlike some people on here i have to spend my time in the real world and cant spend my time trawling the media for any offending article or letter heading that mentions 'hull tiger'.
PLT. Tenfoottiger from CI applied to the FA for a ladies team to use that name. I know, genius right? Anyhoo, the FA called Dr Allam and mentioned it to him, and got him to bring his application forward so they can say yes to him in the new year. This has all been discussed on other threads. Obvious points from this: 1. The FA are quite happy for us to change our name, otherwise they'da just let let TFT go ahead with his and say nowt to Dr Allam 2. Dr Allam wasn't planning on submitting his request until the next year, after conducting some research, engaging more with the fans etc, but sadly, due to TFTs action, his hand was forced 3. Yes of course its all Dr Allams fault <rollseyes>
All this Allam name change stuff is mute anyway. When I win the 590 million dollar lottery tonight I am buying the team.
