As an academic exercise, based on current league positions, current form and looking at the fixtures remaining against the top 9 teams, it seems to me that Everton have the best chance of winning the league! Conversely, the three London teams have the hardest fixtures! Accordingly, the end of season table could be: - 1. Everton 2. Man Utd 3. Man City 4. Liverpool 5. Newcastle 6. Southampton 7. Arsenal 8. Chelsea 9. Tottenham No doubt this will result in howls of derision from London supporters, Untd haters, etc, but it is only early days!
Why not? The league title is wide open this season. But have you factored in a reverse in your next fixture?
We'll not win the PL, but it'd be wrong to say that we're not currently in the race, as the table clearly shows that we are. However, the massive squads of City & Chelsea, together with their massive spending power, will come to the fore shortly...& our squad lacks depth, so whilst our first XI has shown that we can give anyone a game, when we inevitably pick up a few injuries, we'll be stretched & it'll show
With Spurs now effectively out of the race (no-one comes back from sacking their manager mid-term) the top-four places are wide open. Everton has as much chance as anyone in the mix atm, in my opinion. It'll be City/Chelsea, then two others. Let's see where everyone is after the Christmas New year period, but it looks like a competitive league being won by teams playing good, passing football. Loving it.
I wouldn't write Spurs off just yet, as their squad (on paper at least) is as good as anyone's in the chasing pack. IF they can appoint the right man, then there's still more than enough time for them to come good & get right back in the thick of it. As you say, the Christmas period could well sort the wheat from the chaff, as it's an intense programme & it definitely favours the clubs with the larger squads. It's been the best season for a while already & I hope it's still as tight come the 12th Jan.
With only 1 win in their last 12, I can't see the Swans taking points on Sunday. It will be a match between two excellent managers, however, whose teams play attractive football.
Man City will win the league by some distance in my opinion as Chelsea edge out Arsenal in second whilst Everton and Liverpool battle out 4th.
Well, it was a close match, but Everton edged it in the end. Did you watch MOTD2 ? On that programme, Martin Keown said that Everton are the best team he has seen all season! And that from an Arsenal fan!
Never. Blue Billwill sell all the best players last summer.......I mean in January, in fact Baines had plyed his last game for everton before christmas and is gone
