Can't believe that's happened really. They're still a couple of points clear of the relegation zone, having never been in it all season, and are comparing this season to what was clearly an overachievement last season. I think their game against us demonstrated they really need a decent striker to replace Lukaku, and they haven't been helped by the Anelka situation. But, January's only a fortnight away really, so I'd think hold tight and invest, and see if things can pick up. Definitely seems like a knee-jerk reaction to me, although having said that, how many fans of other clubs would say the same thing if we sacked Hughton after a 1-0 defeat tomorrow? I also can't really see whose available to replace him, Di Matteo must be the favourite.
That's what happen when I post tired lol. Thank god for the edit button. They do have a good squad although I think their strikers are a bit lazy and won't do the hard stuff like winning the ball back or pressing.
Sobering. Instead of talking about sacking CH, it made me realise what my feeling would be immediately after he goes. It wouldn't be a good one. (That in itself is not a reason not to sack him, but did make me aware of what a big decision it would be by McNally.) I just hope he gets it right whatever the club do.
Anyone seen Saido Berahino's tweet about it? Clearly very annoyed with the board over it, particularly I guess as he's just signed a long term contract committing himself to the club, and to the manager, who had brought him into first team football. Him and Redmond are clearly very good friends, use that to our advantage with a cheeky bid in January and see if he tries to force a way out? Could then sell Becchio to at least part-fund it.
As soon as the game I ended, I said on the other match day thread he would be the next casualty from the PL. After listening to their phone in last week, this comes as no surprise in the slightest to me, though I didn't think I would wake up to the news today (I was expecting Monday). Other than the blistering start to last season, the Baggies have won just 7 games this year, and why they are near the bottom, far from a knee-jerk reaction I would suggest. The only difference between him and CH, is the guy above does not have the same level of patience I guess.
I totally agree with Thai. And I think the only difference is that at 7 odd wins in the calender year, CH managed to beat back to back relegation rivals, SC lost to them. Again can't see it as knee jerk from WBA, more final straw in a long less than satisfactory run. I'm sure Clarke's a nice man, just may be not a great PL manager. Bah!
That and the fact that changing managers is not always the best option. As I said on one of the other threads - realistically, we need somewhere close to 10 points before we play in the FA Cup, less than 7 and I don't see how DM can justify CH being in charge when we face Everton next (they looked quite formidable yesterday I thought!!).
Biggest problem at WBA is they haven't replaced Dan ashworth. He has been key to there rise hence why the FA wanted him. They also replaced Lukaku with Anelka, says alot. At this moment in time there are some shocking sides down at the bottom and some bang average. As I've said since the beginning of the season there are 3 worse sides than us or wba in this league. Personally I think wba would have been fine under Clarke and they might regret the decision.
Seems like the board don't quite have the same level of patience as ours. That said he hasn't had CH's ability to get the results when really needed. What makes me laugh is some people saying they would rather have clark, yet he had a worse record this calendar year, which people have been beating Chris round the head with. Will be interesting how it goes from here, and what manager they can get, as they are very similar in stature to us.
Just wondering if they had not been cheated out of those two points at Chelsea, plus the denied stonewall penalty in the 91st minute at home to Stoke would he have been sacked with them on 19 points?
Ideal opportunity Hughton to WestBrom with compensation, Clarke to here and we get better football. Its win win
I said we could go for Clarke to the fan next to me just after half time. Our next 3 or 4 games will decide his fate, but you can't blame him for the goal we conceded today - Seb should have dealt with it!!!
Hasn't Clarke got an even worse win ratio than Hughton? What, 1 win in 9 games or something. The same supporters who's been moaning about our record now want Clarke, sometimes there's no words lol.
Yes, but only because his forwards 'can't hit a barn door' they're creating the chances, just not putting them in the net. They're really missing Lukaku this season.
Yes they are missing Lukaku and the manager didn't really replace him, Clarke won't be an improvement on Hughton in my opinion. I'm just thankful we have a board that knows what they doing.
In all honesty, my comment was meant to be 'tongue in cheek' and boy, am I glad we have McNally in charge!!!!
