I'm not saying anything new here or anything Gus doesn't already know too but my question is who can we get? Are there any free transfers that would fit the bill? Maybe a lower league player that could step up? Or what about a loan deal? Altidore, Borini, Fletcher, Wickham and Ji are just not cutting it this season and yesterday was a perfect example why we are bottom. Great play, total control of the game but looked pretty poor as a goal threat. It's been our problem for the whole season. Which players could solve that problem?
To be honest, I think the strikers we have are good enough once the service improves and they adapt to each other's play. We need to move the ball forward much quicker for a start. I haven't seen our strikers running onto many balls or having much they can get their head on. We have to get behind defences more than we are at the moment. I really can't see us buying a striker in January although I think Welbeck will be available.
i think strikers are fine, but they need to commit into the box more. critical change is we need to move the ball back to front much quicker and improve vastly on the final ball forward / into the box. so many times yesterday when crosses were overhit, corners never any danger etc...and tippy tappy around the box where the ball should have been delivered much earlier. just too slow and clumsy. i'd rather see 2 or 3 big, pacy attacking players who have no fear of taking players on.
We had lots of shots yesterday 19 and only 6 on target. Borini should have squared the ball etc. Yet again nearest goal came from Bardsley hitting the woodwork. Yes Cest do we not need a finisher and a creative goal scoring midfielder. I second the motion!
you probably could have come on here at this time last year and seen a similar OP. The truth is all managers want a goal scoring striker in January, from Chelsea on down. The likelihood of anyone decent coming to us is slimmer than an anorexic carrot..............................which is why we ended up with DG last january
Id still say centre back and midfielder are more of a priority. Injuries to Brown and or Ki and wed be looked. I think Altidore Borini and Fletcher are capable of getting the goals given the service. Yesterday was more about age final ball being poor but that'd all about confidence.
We absolutely DO need a goalscorer in January as imo, none of the current squad have goals in them at the minute. We had enough of the ball yesterday and created a hatful of opportunities but lack the one man capable to stick the chances away. Its absolutely pivotal that we bring in a new striker. Smug I saw today that Man Utd may well be letting DW go and also more to the point Hernandez. I'd prefer to see if we could recruit one of those (Hernandez preferably) till the end of the campaign as he is a 'fox in the box' we so badly miss. I'd look to cash in on Wickhams lower league revival and also let Ji and DG go permanently to release wages. I don't think between Altidore (works hard but just cant finish) and Fletcher (just doesn't seem interested right now) has the firepower to save our skins this season so we do need a new striker in January desperately imo.
I'm happy with the strikers, it's the service that needs to be tidier but It was a lot better against west ham. I would bet a fiver for charity that we had more shots against west ham (19) then we've had combined from our strikers all season togethers. They've had not service. What good is a tried and tested goal scorer who doesn't get set up with opportunities? Well we've seen what happens with Fletch, they don't get a sniff. I'd much rather get a LB, creative midfielder and some pacy wide men myself.
This, it's too easy to blame strikers for not scoring but our problem is the lack of creativity in the side. Smug hit the nail on the head in an earlier post when he said we don't get the ball forward quick enough, good teams have three or four defenders/midfielders who can carry the ball forward centrally with pace, how many have we got? Not many, with the possible exception of Ki, I cant think of anyone. Carrying the ball forward from wide positions limits a teams options, that's why it is better through the centre which leaves two wide, two channels and a central option.
after watching villa , i would be quite happy to have allbrighton instead of johnson, he works hard and attacks the full back outside with crosses coming in he also mixes it dropping inside , and he looks keen
An idea on the width for next season. Wing backs maybe so we can play with a front 3 effectively? Would be too big a project for January though.
