    he really is.
How people defend him is beyond me. It has to be down to personality because it certainly isn't his football.

We should bite Barca's hand off to get rid.

Would you still say the same if he was moved into midfield?

Kind of agree, although shocking player may be an overstatement, he's a very good player however he is not cut out to be a central defender at this level. Been very poor today.

He switches off and makes reckless lunges and that wouldn't change where ever he plays.
I hate how he's elbowing every game.

    So yes to the question.

never going to happen under Jose.

Luiz should never be our CB just like Cahill.

    Luiz = Cahill = Calamity

It's not Luiz's fault that Mourinho is unknowing/unwilling of how to correctly deploy him. Yes he has his weaknesses, but right now our whole defence is a mess and we need someone to sort it out. If Barcelona are becoming persistent in their pursuit of him, that's reason alone to keep him. Ask yourself why they're coming after him and not someone like, Cahill?

To be honest I didn't rate him too highly prior to Mourinho. I have no idea why he's loved so much either. Barcelona want him because he'll suit La Liga and their keep-ball style of play perfectly. For a centre back he can distribute the ball amazingly along with his pace, dribbling ability and shooting. He's not a premier league central defender in my opinion due to his rash and risky style.

Dont care about Luiz, if I see Ivanovic starts again I wont watch. Shame his suspension is only for the Capital One match.

With Ivanovic it baffles me that he can't put one decent ball in, he must attempt to cross 8-10 times a match, never meeting his target. How about we play Luiz out there if Azpi is at RB. At least we know Luiz knows how to find a guy. But yeah ideally Azpi-Ivan-JT-????

Here's my take on this defensive shambles - there is no real competition for places. Cech & Ivan being a case in point....no matter how badly they play it's more than likely they will be in the next starting line-up. I have no doubt that if Cech showed more authority we wouldn't be shaking in our boots at set pieces; if the keeper is confident the back four will fall into line.

As for Ivan it's all been said before -I'm positive that more intelligent use of possession from someone else rather than himself would be more beneficial to the team. The issue is one of complacency and Jose's old policy of "untouchables" is the root cause of our problems at the moment.

The whole team is playing poorly. Ramires, 1 great strike, 2 shocking misses, hardly a pass finding a team mate, yet gets no criticism?? Ivan needs a break, Luiz needs some game time after a long lay off. Both are proven, excellent players. We have no control, a spluttering defence, and lousy strikers, so don't expect miracles. Being second is the only miracle we will get. Our squad should be pushing the top teams, and is, but we are starting to look like we are just hanging on . Look for another reason we are so disjointed, sluggish, under performing and to my eyes, dispirited.

Perfect, accurate summary. When it's bad on the fields, it's bad off the field.

I wouldn't say we are dispirited. Team spirit is OK.

You keep on saying when it's bad on the field, it's bad off the field.

What evidence do you have that it is bad off the field?

All comments are sensible and clear.

Jose can't miss these obvious issues, can he?

No but maybe he thinks it is unrealistic to solve all these problems this season

aye, unless Roman gave him £150m last summer, he was never gonna sort it at his first go.
We need a new defender in Jan, then in the summer a new striker and a defensive midfielder.

In the summer we are probably going to lose Eto'o, Lampard, Scwarzer and Luiz. The first three will be released and Luiz probably sold abroad.
If we bring Courtois, Omoreu and Lukaku into the mix that will replace them. All 3 players should be ready to step up next season. Then we need 1 big midfield signing imo. then we are gravy

Mourinho probably knew what he wanted but the director of football failed to deliver.

We've been bad in the transfer market for ages.

Our only really good spends were around 2004 when we bought a spine that lasted til 2010-plus.

Let's hope Jose can buy/build a spine to last as long this time round
