Crap article, how are we supposed to expand a stadium that has a roof? He bangs on about soulless bowls yet its already been confirmed we won't have one. He also goes on about attendances, the scum were getting sub 10k regularly not too long ago, saints doubled their crowds with a new stadium and Fulham also have massively increased their crowds over the last decade plus.
Bit of a prat. 23 years a supporter, bully for you. I have been in a 35,000 crowd in LR (v Leeds, 74 I think), so this acclaimed Telegraph sports writer who gets to abuse his position by getting on his personal soapbox can't even do basic research. The atmosphere is partly design, and how many times have TF and PB mentioned this, but also fans. The Emirates is dull because only about 5,000 out of 60,000 make any noise and they are scattered all over the place - and the Gooners have never been loud, I remember the Highbury Library.
I hope they start negotiating now with the FA/PL whoever for a decent size 'safe standing' section. I hate sitting at matches, not that sitting is often an option a LR, more like crouching in agony, hence my quest for seats' in the back row of the stands. Off with some mates to see Hertha Berlin at home some time in the spring, I'll report back on the arrangements in the Bundesliga, very atmospheric I'm told.
This is fantastic news. I really can't understand the prophets of doom. We have to move, we have to attract the Not 606ers of the future. It is a risk, it involves a lot of dosh but our owners are astute business people. As Phil Beard has been saying all day, 'there is a long way to go and a lot of hard work to be put in', but hey our owners have taken up the challenge. We R QPR so things probably won't go smoothly so brace yourselves boys and girl for a bumpy exciting ride. All aboard?, lets go. As an aside, planning consent may be wrapped up in 2015. I hope it is early in the year as the 14 -15 season will be my 60th season of following our beloved team. It will be great to add this into my anniversary season.
Like everyone else I believe that this is fantastic news and probably unique in that we are developing a brand new residential area to go alongside. Te long timescale involved is perhaps a big disappointing but understandable as it needs to fit in with HS2 but it should assure everyone that TF and the Mittels are in for the long haul which is just the stability and investment the club needs.
A couple of threads from other fans. http://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=150807&st=0&sk=t&sd=a Generally decent stuff from WHU fans. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?48070-QPR-plan-new-40-000-seater-stadium They have a special ****** on that forum.
I think, Bushman, the idea is to use the ground for non-football activities (concerts, conferences, er.. ravesâ¦um more concerts) and rake in extra wedge that way. The increased gates will, hopefully, just be a by product of increased success on the pitch (i.e staying in the Premiership) and will supplement extra income generated by off-the-field activities. Most clubs these days aren't making their cash solely through attendances. ANyway who cares?? At least you won't be nearly crushed to death every week trying to have a half time slash in the Ellerslie road toilets!
a long way to go from now until then.God forbid if we arnt in the prem in 5 years. We must be in the top flight to really make the numbers work. Is it me or does that 'photshop' playing taking the corner just look all wrong?!.
I like the fact that TF is looking beyond his ownership of the club, I can't see us filling 40k on a weekly basis in the next 10 years or so, but in 20 years who knows? We don't want a ground that isn't fit for purpose long term, so this ground seems to fit well. The club is moving forward and I for one can't wait to be at the first game which I have no doubt will be a sell out!
I remember TF saying in an interview of QPR his vision of us "not to become a yo-yo team, and instead we need to consolidate our position in the prem" TF certainly has a vision, he knows where he wants us to be, and knows how to take us there. The new stadium is in a decent position, not too far from LR with great public transport links to boot. The issue of a 40k stadia is more to do with building it once. I cannot see the point of building a 25k stadium with a view of expanding it later on at more of an expense. The mantra of build it and they will come should certainly ring true, just think how many R's fans/supporters turned up to support us in 2003 at Cardiff for a Div 2 play-off final; All we need to do is fill around 30k with R's and in the prem the away following is a lot greater. We would have spuds, arse, scum, wh(u)ms, perhaps foolham to as a near guaranteed sell out for home and away supporters, the northeners would sell-out the away end for sure(I'm not suggestion giving the away team 10k , but between 2-4k is reasonable) There will be the added bonus of extra revenue from more advertising space around the ground, more dodgy pies, extortionate tea/coffee prices to be had, a bigger superstore, perhaps with a bar (I'd call it The R's Bar) and with TV money to be had between £40m-£100m, depending on position, per annum, the accountants should be happy. I haven't even touched upon keeping the squad as competitive as possible with new signings. In conclusion, The move away from LR was always on the cards with TF on the board, do it once and do it proper. decent location, great public transport, new revenue streams, consolidation in the prem, it's all pointing to a new great chapter at LR.
Suggest you spend more time worrying about your punctuation than worrying about our great club moving forward. If this great news doesn't get you half excited in the groin region, I can only suggest you are suffering from an erectile dysfunction ............ or you are dead and refuse to lay down.
It can be arranged. I know a couple of lads who will do that for a price. Easiest way is to borrow money from them and not pay it back..
Success is the key to this working. If the team establishes itself in the PL playing good football then the stadium will be filled, if they don't it will be half-full or less every game. There is no doubt we will increase our following, pricing may be the big key here. If they set the prices at a similar level to now, a sort of loss-leader, who knows? PL football in London for £25 may bring in a whole new raft of support. Prices, marketing and especially success hold the key...
I hope you do to bruv cause id love to buy you a beer on the opening day & first game. Stay strong mate
Thats what I think they are doing too, the difference between a 25k and a 40k stadium wont be that much. You might as well go big and then try the bundesliga route of huge crowds and big prices. Who knows, if we become a Spurs or Arsenal type club then we could charge the normal prices and still sell out.
