One of my fav blues guitarist is a local- George Fearon he can play some excellent bluesy slide guitar, he plays with The Alligators/Bushwackers played in the past with a version of The Animals (with Hilton Valentine I think) - here is a clip from a charity gig played in Newcastle (myself on drums that day )
Must agree with Peter Green, what has happened to this guy, last heard he was living in a shack having blown his money on drugs, was that true?
I have to go for Peter Green too. The last I heard he's cleaned himself up but, then again, I have lost touch. So, if we can exclude Green from the list and looked elsewhere then where? I've had a rummage around and there's a couple whom I can't stop playing: the late great Rory Gallagher and smogbound lad Chris Rea. Though, to be more accurate he's more of a blues songwriter than guitarist so I am going to squeeze him in there as my second selection (his album "Dancing The Stony Road" I have played almost white). Vocalists. A little harder but I think that still after all these years Glenn Hughes has it. But going back a number of years I cann't get past the wonderfully gravelly voice of Alexis Korner; his album "Juvenile Delinquent" is simply fantastic as is rendition of the Stones' "Get Off My Cloud". Now, a guitarist who does occasionally play the blues but isn't his favourite genre but when he does is simply excellent is the legendary Albert Lee. Not only is he the finest guitarist I have ever had the pleasure of seeing but one of the two nicest fellows one could ever meet. The other being the late aforementioned Mr Korner would would love to share a pint and chat.
I'll hoy dozens of tunes up once the soaps have finished. I'm not taking part in a glorious thread like this without being able to listen to the music I'm posting.
Took some bad stuff on the Germany tour a long time ago and spiralled down. Wiki has some of the griff but there was a "The Life of " prog on Sky arts a few years ago which was really informative. Not sure if he ever returned as the musician/composer he was though. Need Your Love So Bad would probably my choice of best modern day blues song
40 Years ago I would have agreed with you. He is a great guitarist but I've seen so many better since then. Some of the guests on his Crossroads gigs are better.... Sonny Landreth springs to mind as an example
