Where is the picture ?. Anyhow I was there in the 1970's and remember Stoke in the f a cup and the roker end was not full at the time and 47,000 there I think, awesome to be in and you used to get pushed down about 6 steps when the ball went near the goal !, I was there at the Man c game the final game for the old roker end in 1982, and on that note any stories of 1964 and Man u ?.
Wow, that Roker End was a bloody good end mind. Loads of wonderful nostalgic happy memories (and sadly some pretty woeful ones as well) just came flooding back about the old girl. I do really love the SOL and it is a truly magnificent stadium but my heart was lost to Roker Park some 40 years ago and there is a large part of me wishes I could just stand in that famous stand ground once more, right in the middle of that Roker End, to savour the Roar and the that unique atmosphere. Great picture Sid. Thanks.
Might have been a bit of a dump but it was a proper old fashioned ground with a decent atmosphere, I miss grounds like that as they are all one design fits all days
Billy I was not talking about Sunderland I was talking about roker being an old tired ground which had a good atmosphere one that the new grounds can't repeat It was a compliment
It was a bit grotty at the end when nowt was spent on it, but the noise that was generated there was something to experience, when the roar started in the Fulwell and spread throughout the other sides...
I loved that pie shop. My dads house is just around the corner and I grew up in the area up until 1997. I am getting back to sunderland this year for the first time in years. Looking really forward to it. Gravy, mince pie, mushy peas and chips for me (double portion) Only bad luck I have is that Sunderland play away.
