Pompey booked their place in the southern semi-finals of the Youth Alliance Cup with a 2-1 victory at Southend. Conor Chaplin gave them an early lead, following up to finish after Lewis Horsburghâs effort had been parried clear. But the hosts ensured they would go in level at the interval when a goalmouth scramble ended with Nico Cotton firing home. Pompey booked their place in the last four on 77 minutes, however. The Southend keeper failed to hold Bradley Tarbuckâs long-range strike, leaving Fahad Rwakarambwe to slot in the loose ball. On Tuesday evening we vist St Marys Stadium, to play Southampton Youth in the FA Youth Cup. Good luck lads
Pompey’s Academy slipped to a crushing 7-0 defeat at Southampton in the FA Youth Cup tonight. Andy Awford’s youngsters were always going to be the underdogs at St Mary’s. Yet, once the hosts broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, it became a massive battle to keep Saints at bay. In truth, up until Jake Hesketh’s opener the Blues had more than held their own and could have even have taken the lead when Lewis Horsburgh had been put clean through. In the end, though, only the excellence of Blues keeper Alex Bass kept the already emphatic final scoreline down, as he produced a magnificent display in goal. Niall Mason made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, and after the break a Sam Gallagher hat-trick, a second for Hesketh and substitute Mark Irvine completed the result, witnessed by a crowd of 3,814 – of which 616 were Pompey fans. Well done Saints Youth team for a convincing win. Our lads did their best.
Sounds like it could have been more as according to the Echo their keeper was their best and had a very good game.
To be honest it could have been quite a few more ! saints were far superior ....The score was kept to 7 by pompeys keeper who i thought was excellent .
Channon, you could have introduced the drink '7 Up' as part of an amusing retort - that would have worked, and had us Pompey fans rolling on the floor laughing hysterically
