I agree with the above. We can't keep a clean sheet for love nor money so there's no point in playing tight.
We need to go for it and ensure that no matter how many we concede, we score more.

can i offer two points here.

    1. you are right. 4th is one battle the bread and butter wins are for but to win it we have to do a lot better at the top end of the table. and thats why we are behind arsenal and not close to favorites

    2. arsenal game was tactical error. nothing more... southampton was too IMO BUT lets look at something here. internationals. add in swansea here and we have done badly each and every time we played an international. why? our preparation methods? players too eager to play internationals... gerrard legs gone? who knows but there is a direct correlation with internationals and away day poor performances. There are no internationals coming. so we'd better get our finger out!

It is obviouosly just my opinion, and we'll have to await the outcome, but I have to say that the form of our competitors going into the next 5 games is going me cause for optimism.

Spuds are having a poor time of it and can't seem to buy a goal just at the moment. If we can keep Suarez well served, we could be turning them over at home for the first time since 2008. As for the Chavs, they're due for a home kicking to welcome Maureen back to the Prem and Luis could be the man to do it...

No Stevie means we can look at the future. Think that Jordan (H) is beginning to look the player we thought he might be. Plenty of energy and keen to run on and make an extra man. Also willing to have a go from distance. Robust enough to take the sort of punishment big physical players will dish out (Nolan last week, for example). Phillippe is also beginning to look properly match fit again. The question is, with Studge out, what is the best support for Luis? Still not sure about Sterling, he's willing but clearly not the finished article; wonder if the other Jordan (Ibe) might get some time in the next few weeks? Moses is definitely not the player I had hoped we'd gotten from Chelsea. His finishing is not there and for a senior forward, that is a crime.

I agree about the question marks over Sterling although he undoubtedly has potential. Ibe should definitely have some chances this year as he's a very good prospect who should be bled into the first team over the next few years. I also agree with St.John on Moses. He's not shown enough to warrant a longer stay at the moment and needs to up his game and perform if he gets a chance to. I still want to see Alberto play in some games as he was always compared to Xabi Alonso by the spanish press, due to his passing ability and vision.

Rodgers on MITO's block of four:

"The focus is only Tottenham," said Rodgers. "We finished our last block of games having reached the targets that we set. Of course, we'd always want to be better, but 10 points out of 15 in the last five games has kept us on track for where we want to go.

"The next block of five games is important for us. But the next game is the most important and that's against Tottenham. It'll be a tough game, but we'll really relish going there.

blocks of 5... this is why brendan is an also ran ;)

    38/5 well 40/5 = 8 even blocks so 38 = 7 blocks plus 3 games extra.

    5 game blocks 90/7 = 18 points in each block. 12.85 out of 15. or 12 to 13 points out of 15. =4 wins out of 5.

you could work it that way i suppose....

but you know. thats why brendan is only ever going to fail. he over complicates things that were nice and simple with win 3 out of 4.

also.. if his target was really 10 points of of the last 15.... i'd like him to explain why losing one and drawing one in every 5 is fine.

  7. Five game blocks is 7.6 blocks (38/5). Ten points x 7.6 blocks = 76pts. I'm sure most of us would have taken that on 1st August <ok>

    <doh>.

m(o)ng, Brendan doesn't target 10/15 every block, he takes opponents and current squad status into account

some blocks he may target 13/15 points to make up the difference if the fixtures and schedule are kinder.

    thoughts?

thoughts? if he does that he'll miss his target as its "barely" enough each time. Far better to try in every game.

anyway... i asked a while back... for gerrez to put my prediction in 76points wasn't it?

    great pleasure to post this.

As a result of today the block of 4 closes with 9/12 and we enter a new block with 2 real tough games in it and two home games against bottom half teams.

I predicted 7/12 for this last week and stand by it. we can go do that but 6/12 and you know we are still well on for CL. win those home games!

Win the home games and stuff the "lesser" teams ( something we've struggled with the last few seasons), and we're in with a chance.

    thanks for the update

so... anyone bricking ti that city will be horrendously hard right now? I'm more looking at cardiff than city as a bigger game. City away is hard for everyone. If we can catch them napping great but we've GOT to take our home 3 points next up.

    BUT.....

f it if we go lose to cardiff and best city its all the one.

We have to beat Cardiff quite frankly, it's a massive opportunity especially with Arsenal playing Chelsea. Win that and go in to the Chelsea/City games on the back of 4 wins on the bounce. Fantastic response to the Hull defeat, but we just can't afford to lose next weekend.

    hopefully we will.

    we need to earn it.

I'm looking forward to the City game!

Everyone is expecting us to get hammered based on City's home form and if we do well everyone is getting hammered there so no biggie. But their home form has to stop at some point and we've shown we can go away to the teams at the top and beat them now.

Agreed IBWT, absolutely nothing to lose against City, and with players like Suarez we will always have a chance. The win today will do us wonders from a psychological point of view, it was a perfect away performance in a game we wasn't favourites. After all we should of won their last season, and Aguero should be missing for them.

    Cardiff first though!
