Rodgers or Martinez

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by jaffaSlot, Dec 8, 2013.

  1. I think the judgment on him at Wigan is quite harsh. He went backwards in terms of league positions but everyone else were improving around them. Look at how much more competitive the league is nowadays. Wigan did well to be in the premier League as long as they were.

When he left the swans I thought he'd become a top manager so I thought he'd get Wigan top 10 especially given some of the players he has had. He's looking like the manager I thought he would be this year tho, hope he keeps it up tbh more teams ahead of utd the better

Everton have the same chance as... west brom of signing lukaku. and just cos the "i'm always fecking right" everton resident of this board disagrees with every other members reasonable and quite correct opinion does make his sole opinion correct.

As for barry.... he committed a clear yellow card offense early in that game and howard webb let him off... this kind of stuff occurs with england and ex england players all the time. the guy is a slow donkey. a kicker.... whos on 150k per week. Everton are welcome to him...

Overall, its nice to see the neighbours playing well - I remember them playing under Kendall and enjoying the derby games - feisty but with good football as well.

I think that Barry might be a good acquisition for the blues, perhaps club captain as well. Good experience, steady head and will mentor youngsters. Given the talent running off the production line at the moment, having those wise heads is going to be important. But equally, given the talent emerging, might be money better spent on that instead if it is one or the other...

I think Everton will get Barry to sign a deal with them come the end of the season as no-one better will want/need him in our league. Delafeu (however it is spelt) will likely stay another season with them as well (deal already in plae to extend his loan). And as for Lukaku, i'd say it's unlikely as Chelsea don't have the greatest strikers, but if Everton make top 4 and Chelsea splash big on another striker, then who knows? He is obviously the type of player who likes to get game time.

Martinez is doing a great job, i think he's a good manager and it's good to see an attacking Everton team. They gave us a great game today and good luck to them.

Not once Henry said he was going nowhere. You stuck to your story though.

  8. See, I think Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton could do with him. If Chelsea did decide to sell and the other three went in for him, would he go to Everton? Would Everton be able to afford him in a bidding war with these clubs (transfer and wages)? Not even mentioned foreign clubs.

IMO, he is exactly what Chelsea are lacking and I reckon Jose will be kicking himself for the error he has made.

Agree that Martinez is doing a great job.

But do you honestly see Barry giving up an extra 50+k a week to join Everton when he could sit on the bench at City for a few months and be a free agent?

His contract with City is up in the summer isn't it? So he will need to look for a new club anyway.

I'd have Lukaku at Arsenal for sure! But if Arsenal and Chelsea both signed other strikers i could see a way for him to end up at Everton (if they beat you lot to top4, if they dont get top4 and you lot do then no chance he is going there). As i say though i think it's unlikely. Most likely scenario is he is Chelsea 1st/2nd choice next season.

Fair enough, thought he had another year to go, but as stated earlier in the thread Everton won't be the only club wanting him, so they'll have to match or better what's on offer?

  13. It was only an example, Liverpool won't sign him as he's not a BR type player (BR likes players that can perform in various positions).

That's true, but who else do you think would go in for him? He is still a useful player but i can't see Chelsea, Arsenal or City wanting him. Maybe you guys or Utd would want him for some depth in midfield? Maybe not. I think Everton would probably be about as high up the league as he will be able to play, though your right someone else may offer more in wages and Everton aren't exactly cash rich :p

Plus with how well your current strikers are playing your only likely to sign a back-up striker if you bring someone else in up top, surely?

Was going to say Newcastle but he's not French enough...
    Maybe going back to Villa?

To be honest the only reason he won't go back to Everton in my opinion is if they can't agree his wages. I think Everton would sign him on a free and he'd want to go there unless he has to take a massive wage drop.

  17. I don't agree with the back-up bollox. Sign the best we can get and let the squad fight it out.

  18. Can't see Villa or Newcastle offering much more than Everton, they're all tight ****ers.

    Err no.<grr>

Villa would match everton's wage offer for one, and maybe the likes of Leeds and QPR in the championship?

He's on £120,000/week. Due to age he might take £90-100k but not the 50k Everton can afford. Plus a few million signing on bonus. Plus a million for his agent. All for a 2 year contract.
