Luck certainly has deserted us Vol... Tuesday night we were denied a penalty (and probably a red card for the opposition) Today we had an Own Goal / Penalty and Red Card all against us Which Charlton personnel walked under a ladder or broke a mirror this week... Must have been Churchy?
The Yeovil commentators reckon they should have had one, poss 2, penalties before they scored. They were also very critical of Yann for throwing himself to the floor and yelping. So I'm not the only one who's critical of him.
Sorry 'bout that. I posted in a PizzerÃa with my two daughters playing merry hell, while I wrote on my mini mobile, so I probably pressed a button or three in error. I've tried to go back and 'like' it but the thread won't let me, so you'll have to live with my nonsensical dislikes! As far as football goes, I'd decided to dedÃcate today to christmassy stuff and wait till I got home before hitting the internet, but Mrs Shabby betrayed me. She disappeared into a series of clothes shops for the entire two hour period of saturday football, so what else does a man do but hitch up to the BBC site and suffer the Addicks throwing away a two goal lead. I may try again nexy week, as up and till about 3.00, I'd cleared my head of football and was almost happy, but I'm just incapable of sitting these things out without wanting to know the score.
Atleast this time I got some sleep whilst we played, first time in a long time I couldn't fight the eyelids. Woke up to the 2-0 ... 2-2 collapse... Luck has even deserted us.
I was off gallivanting in León yesterday, and a lovely city it is too. The cathedral in particular looks stunning when lit up at night. Have just seen the highlights, terrific stuff from Stewart for both goals. Disappointing then that we threw it away, even if we were unlucky with Morrison's own goal. I just hope we can take the confidence from scoring 2 into the coming games.
Alnwick 7 - Unlucky with the goals, made some good saves and distributed the ball out wide to begin counter-attacks Wilson 4 - Seems to be getting worse each match and must know his days are numbered with Solly regaining fitness Wiggins 7 - So much better than the Ipswich match, but his quality dribbling and crossing were often wasted due to no Kermit in the box Morro 6 - Solid until the own-goal and then looked very nervous Dervite 6 - Should have replaced Cousins in the middle with Wood coming on at centre-back Cousins 8 - Bright, tenacious and now looking irreplaceable Stephens 7 - Helped turned defence into attack with some quick balls out to Stewart and up to Church Stewart 9 - Different class, best player on the pitch, but did jump out of one or two tackles Jackson 5 - Too slow for such a frenetic pace and this contributed to his needless show of frustration Kermit 5 - Unfit and uninterested, too slow to join attacks and was beaten in the air more often than not Church 6 - Hard-working, but looked like Bambi on ice with a ball at his feet Hughes 5 - his advanced years were terribly exposed by the pace of the game, much like Jacko Solly 6 - Calmed down the defence and tackled well Wood - N/A This was two points lost and certainly not one point gained. We bossed the game in the first half and could have been four or five up, despite Jackson, Kermit and Wilson's abysmal form. The second half performance was the polar opposite and Powell was continuously telling the players to drop deeper, thus inviting Yeovil pressure. I can't believe Jackson wasn't replaced by Green and likewise Kermit for Sordell as we should have continued to attack a poor home team. In hindsight, Hughes was the wrong sub for Cousins, but many had been calling for Hughes to come in and steady the ship. Gary Johnson will be will chuffed with a point from a match that should have seen his team stuffed out of sight. I could understand if Powell went defensive against the likes of Derby when leading 2-0, but Yeovil were dreadful and not creating anything until we sat back and invited them on. Anyway, apologies for the poor grammar and the hasty report; I need to catch a flight to France in less than hour and I haven't eaten since 7am. If anyone is interested in my visit to Corfe Castle, I could do a follow-up piece tomorrow.
Sounds like a well structured and sensible analysis. With Wilson being critisised by a few I am suprised no one has said much about Sollys[albeit brief]appearance.8 mins +injury time was surely enough to get some observations from someone .Will he be in against Derby? Corfe Castle ,yes it is 30 years since I went and cant remember much about it so would welcome a reminder.
