Song's best work in that season was as an attacking midfielder, he never really had the discipline to be a top DM for me. He gave away stupid fouls just outside our box constantly as well
Eh?? All Arteta has ever done is won a few trophies in Scotland which, let's face it, most professional footballers could do. He then played 7 seasons at Everton not achieving anything of note. He's never played for Spain. On what basis can you conclude that we all "know he is class"? Granted Flamini hasn't achieved much more in his career but he's got an FA Cup and a Serie A title to his name. That and being poached by Arsenal (twice) and Milan.
Wasn't talking about his last season with us. He had one season where he properly played as a defensive midfielder and I thought he was outstanding ('08 maybe?). Disciplined, strong, good break up play etc. Over the next couple of seasons he pushed further forward and became far more attacking. IMO we didn't need him to play there, we needed a proper DM. Happily we now have Flamini and Arteta. Flamini is more your regular DM type figure but Arteta can fill the role too as he's disciplined and intelligent.
Oooo, tough one here. They're both equally important to us. I chose Arteta because he connects better with the rest of the midfield but Flamini breaks up opposition play so well and has been a big part of our good run this season. Arteta edges it for me by 0.01%.
