One of the best Saints performances in years. Maybe since against Tottenham under Strachan!!!! If you didn't know football you would have thought it was between 2 giants of the game!!!! Loved the whole game and was grinning ear to ear the way we kept pushing them backward when they were in possession.
Nah, there was no free kick in the incident I'm thinking of. We were playing it right to left in our own half, Cork took a poor touch and could have gifted a City player a chance to run at goal, but but reacted quickly and slid in just in time, and managed to poke it to another Saints player. It was a split second of heart-in-mouth, followed by relief.
Great performance - very proud of the boys. No negatives about anyones performance - great to be a Saints fan at the moment - long may it continue.
We rode our luck a bit although their penalty shout was pish. How can you give one when the ball is blasted from six feet away?Hooper will score freely now. They won't be Osvaldo style though, but they all count.
What is so pleasing is that not a single one of our team looked out of place among some of the world's top players. Of course, over the 90 minutes you can pick out the odd error but Man City are a top team who put us under a lot of pressure. Generally, i thought we were the better team (just). The centre back pairing were, once again, superb as were Shaw and Chambers but it is the midfield that was most exciting. It was the most vibrant and creative performance that we have seen all season. All 4 of them seemed to be perpetual motion, fluent and interchangeable. There is no doubt that Wanyama has certain strengths but I'm convinced that as a team we looked sharper yesterday. Considering his lack of match practice, the pressure on him to perform well and the nature of the opposition I thought Cork was superb. His linking of defence and attack was complete contrast to Wanyama's laying the ball off or passing it backwards. There will be games coming up where Wanyama will shine but I hope Cork is given more opportunities, it is so much better to watch. When Schneiderlin is fit again there will be some genuine selection headaches because on that performance you wouldn't want to drop Davis either.
I'm slightly annoyed that the pundits on MotD didn't mention Osvaldo's brilliant goal in the post match analysis. Good praise for Shaw and Lallana though. Would be great if they both went to the World Cup.
Especially when England will be playing against a Saint in the opening match, and one who can score very special goals!

I think what is niggling some on here is that from 95 minutes of football you chose to highlight ten seconds of negativity, just saying.
