We're often discussing who is world class and who isn't. If you were given free reign to pick your world cup dream team - who would you pick?

23 players - 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 7 midfielders, 6 forwards. Remember to make sure you have the left back, right back etc - but as a world cup dream team the formation is up to you.

    My 23 squad:

    GK: Neuer, Buffon, Cech,

DF: Thiago Silva, Hummels, Lahm, Pique, Ramos, Alves, Kompany,

MF: Ronaldo, Iniesta, Schweinsteiger, Robben, Özil, Bale, Xabi,

FW: Messi, Diego Costa, Suarez, Falcao, Neymar, Ibrahimovic,

Finding no room for Agüero, Cavani, Xavi, Yaya Touré, Ribery, Bonucci, and many others which I might have forgotten while doing this mental list. Might get convinced by further debate that I'm wrong on some of the picks :)

Really tough on who to choose when building a team around Joe Allen.

you serious can find no room for aguero whe you include the aging ibrahimovic??

also in the end the midfield needs more than those types. Ronaldo is a forward. I would put him in for falcao. then i'd think about alonso OR javi martinez.

I'd say keepers are about right, unconvinced by cech mind.

I'd prob not take pique in this list as theres a couple of players at bayern i'd rather too....

    GK: Neuer, Courtois, Cech

DF: Lahm, Marcelo, T. Silva, Ramos, Alaba, Dante, Kompany

MF: Martinez, Schweinsteiger, Ribery, Isco, Alonso, Toure, Iniesta

FW: Messi, Aguero, Suarez, Neymar, Diego Costa, Ronaldo

    So...

    -------------------- Neuer
    Lahm-------Silva-------------Ramos-------Marcelo
    ------------------Toure
    -----Ribery--------Isco---------Ronaldo
    --------------Messi---Suarez

Could swap Isco for Iniesta. Lots of options, especially up top.

I'd obviously want a controller in there, like Schweinsteiger or Alonso but then I'd have to drop Suarez...

Think right now there are 4 undroppables in a world XI - Lahm, Ribery, Ronaldo, Messi

Alonso is in - Xabi not Xavi ...

Ronaldo as the front of a diamond formation.
Imbrahimovic is right now in the form of his life - outscoring Cavani, Falcao and just about everyone, so in a present form squad I'd pick him yeah.

  7. If you're doing a basic world cup squad then surely it would be three keepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and four attackers (based on a 442)

4-4-2 is hopefully dead and buried:)

Took the 3-7-7-6 split by looking at the last WC final. Spain had a 3-7-9-4 and the Netherlands a 3-7-7-6. Remember that Spain's squad was considered a special setup since they lacked forwards and had an overflow of midfield talent.

3-7-7-6 is a good setup for 4-3-3, with the option of going 4-5-1 when needed. But hey go with any other realistically used squad setup if you want. Just didn't want answers that were basically 1-4-4-14 or something similarly inane:p
