BRIGHTON midfielder Liam Bridcutt admits he would find it tough to reject a move to the Premier League after being linked with a Gus Poyet reunion at Sunderland.

The Black Cats have repeatedly been credited with an interest in Bridcutt since Poyet was appointed at the Stadium of Light two months ago.

Crystal Palace saw a £1.75million offer for the 24-year-old rejected last summer, yet with only 18 months remaining on his Brighton contract, he is expected to leave the Amex Stadium either in January or at the end of the campaign.

And ex-Chelsea youngster Bridcutt, who has only just returned to the Brighton side after injury, has made no secret of his desire to play his trade in the top flight.

Bridcutt said today: “If you are doing well you are always going to get interest from other clubs and as a player that’s what you want.

You want to be performing and for other clubs to notice that.

“For me it’s just a case of getting back in the team and performing and trying to do the best I can for Brighton.

“I have always said that I want to be a Premier League player and the only way I am going to do that is by performing.

“It’s going to be even better if I can do it with Brighton but if there is an opportunity for me to do it with another club it’s going to be hard for me to turn it down.

“But as long as I’m performing you are always going to have that interest from other clubs.”

Sunderland’s chances of making a move for Bridcutt though have been thrown into doubt by the emergence of Ki Sung-Yeung as a key figure under Poyet.

The South Korean plays in the same holding midfield role as Bridcutt and the on-loan Swansea man has excelled in that role under Poyet.

The Sunderland head coach told the Echo today: “I think Ki thinks I’m taking the mick out of him when I tell he’s a key player!

“I keep saying: ‘Ki, you could be the key for us!’ and he gives me a funny sideways look – but he could be.

“It’s a special position on the pitch for us and he needs to understand certain things in a special way about how he should play.

“That’s how I know it’s going to get better for us and he’s going to get better for us because time will make him get better.”

Poyet really rates him. That's good enough for me like but lets not be talking anything like Wickham money. I read they want 10m for Bridcutt and Ulloa. I'd be incensed if that much money was thrown at them.

Don't be stupid now. our midfield is weak at the moment & signing Bridcutt will make it even weaker pal.

First things first.......i'm not ya pal. never will be, as i think you're a ****.

However, you cast an opinion on a player, and if you can back up your theory, i will respect it...

    So can you?

I guess Gus needs your incisive enlightenment then because at the moment he rates him. But that's only because he's managed him. But clearly, you're better informed.

Mate the gobshite won't even know what Liam Bridcutt looks like let alone how good he is. He's only dismissing him because he plays in a lower league. The same way he dismissed Ki (by far and away the best midfielder in the squad this season) because he was out of favor at Swansea. Still denies he's wrong. Thick as ****ing pig **** he is.

    Still, he does entertain.

Ive seen Bridcutt in 3 games. He looked good every time, so much time on the ball and very tidy. Woyld definitely give him a chance and with his contract running down and with him saying hes prepared to leave, I reckon we could get him for about 3m.

I will back it up, he is small, about 5ft5 & doesn't score or assist at all. yes he can pass a ball ok but we need more than that. the main problem with Sunderland is our midfield & if we sign Bridcutt then it will be same old same old.

I watch him against Palace in the play offs & he didn't have a kick. he is black, about 5ft5 & a ok passes of a ball. nothing special at all. don't doubt my footy knowledge.

Plus I was right about Ki you stupid idiot. big deal he is our best midfield but **** me that can't be hard can it. our midfield is piss weak.
