The lad should be moved on in January even if it means giving him a free transfer.
When he came on last night I had a feeling of dread as the bloke is completely useless as a player.
To continue to even give him a place on the bench is, in my opinion criminal and could stifle the development of one of our younger prospects.
His time is up and I for one would carry him in a rickshaw if it meant him departing NE1.

It's criminal that we've got youngsters waiting in the wings to come on and show what they can do, we already know what Obertan can/can't do.

    Another mistake by Pards.

He was always ****. The guy was a waste of 3 million and having him on the bench really shows how desperately we need reinforcements in January. We need a striker badly. Shola is just wretched and embarassment of a footballer. 1 goal in 40 appearances is it? The thought of him leaving at the end of the season makes me a very happy man.

He's lazy and just seems happy to be on the bench.

Utter crap as a player. Doesn't he know that he needs to play with the ball rather than run away from it. What makes it worse is Pardew saying he thought his contribution to the game was good. !!!!!!

Wanted to cry when l saw Obertan waiting to come on. Why for pity's sake does Pardew even contemplate this waste of space. The guy is gutless, gives the ball away, then strolls around while others, like DeBuchy break their necks to win it back.
    Spineless lump of ****.
The sooner he is gone the better, but Pardew wants a slap for putting him on the pitch in the first place.
From the moment he came on, any remaining hope went out the window.
If Cisse offers nothing at present, then Obertan offers minus nothing with knobs on. Aaaarrrgggg !

Kind of proves what Pards knowledge of the game is.

Has anybody ever thought of a Pardew out Thread?

should of got a shot on goal when on the break late on .. he just lacks that special art of keeping the momentum going ,and ability to stick it in the net ..

his time at this club looks numbered now.

Hmm no manager worth their salt slaughters their players in an interview though do they. If he is asked how they did, he'll do anything but be negative. They were both awful last night. At least Haidara has hope though.

Anyone who thinks it would have been a good idea to answer the question with any sort of negative just doesn't know football. You'll quickly lose a dressing room with that approach. Ask our friends down the road. Some players might respond positively but not fragile big bonce.

I think it is quite clear that Pards would like to offload Obertan and have a better option. Until such a time someone is mad enough to take that plunge and the fat man opens the cheque book though, he has to actually MANAGE the situation, not find ways of upsetting the applecart.

Bigi should be on the bench in front of Obertan.

I'd disagree on this. I thought Mapou had been attacked by Pards in a post-match interview before? Can't really remember.

But you can't say that everything will not be negative in the comments.
When a player has played piss poor, he has to make that clear.
Mourinho recently attacked his players after losing to us. I would say they have responded accordingly.
In any case, these players are professionals, they get paid for what they do, which is play football. At work, if we don't do well are our bosses not allowed to criticise us to others?
To add to that, I don't believe the players are so fragile and vulnerable that any sort of criticism on them would result in poor play. Some players do, but some players react better to criticism. There are times where you have to admit, you really weren't good enough that night, and this was such a night. Instead of going all high and mighty "oh I thought so and so did well" (which in itself is nowhere near the truth) , you sometimes have to acknowledge we weren't the better team on the night and the opponents played us off the park..

As I say I think management is about making a judgement call though. Could you really see Obertan responding well to a shoeing in the press? His confidence is shot at the best of times and he is not very good. Confirming that won't help him at all. He has become of a pathetic figure to be honest. Its just not one size fits all for me. You can criticise a the team effort in a press conference now and again (As Jose did) but when you pick out individuals, you have to be selective and know which players respond. I've never heard Jose be asked how one o his players did after a bad game and just turn round to say "Yeah he was poor". They know its a loaded question and go the other way.

You can't compare it to normal working life for me. It is pampered little world whether we like it or not. Even then I have worked with incredibly sensitive people in the past who were one rollocking away from a mental breakdown. However if you encouraged them, you'd get the maximum (however much that might be) from them. That is management for me, knowing the individuals and collective, then getting the most from them. I wouldn't have expected when I had a manager and they had a problem with me they'd do it in front of all of my colleagues let alone the outside world, its unprofessional. I'd have been quick to let them know that too. Clearly sometimes and in some occupations that is unavoidable (sometimes in my own), but generally performance management should be done in a professional manner.

To be fair I think Pards could have been more honest in his assessment of the game as a whole, but he is not the first manager to focus on poor decisions! Can't say I've heard him attack Mbiwa? I'd imagine looking in though, that Mbiwa would be better equipped to deal with criticism than Overrun. The only person I can really recall of late ripping into players in the press is Di Canio. There is simply no need to cane individuals in the press, it achieves nothing. Whereas pulling them in the next morning and doing it man to man gains respect. Much more likely to illicit a response I'd say.

The top and bottom of it all is Obertan shouldn't be anywhere near the bench never mind getting on ahead of players like Anita. If we were short of attackers then isn't it the time to give youth a chance and break them in gradually. Young Campbell is surely a bigger goal threat than Obertan and what about Marveaux?

I think he always looks like he is bricking it when standing there waiting for his number to be shown on the board. Like he is thinking 'fk, I am well out of my depth here, how did this happen?'

I reckon the rest of the team think he is total carp too. Was it sissoko on wednesday who slid him in on the break and he just got tangled up in his legs? On tv looked like he just rolled his eyes at him as if to say thats absolutely typical.
