Allen will be there until Rodgers leaves imo. He won't want to admit a mistake of that magnitude. He'll probably come back for him when he's in his next job, at somewhere like Sunderland, in 18 months time.......
This is a quality I appreciated in Rafa. He was happy to admit if he thought he'd got a transfer wrong and he wasn't shy in trying to put it right. how many RB's did he sign? The only problem with Rafa was that he was perhaps too hasty at times but then, he saw them in training every day and having read Gerrard's, Carragher's and Fowler's books, they all said they were usually able to tell how good a player was after one or two training sessions.
Feck-it, go balls out and bid 1 Million Pounds for Yaya or have his big brother have a word with him and get him on a free. Yaya, best all round midfielder in the league and by quite a distance!
Not sure if that's directed to me J ss I was discussing just the narrow Allen point with Dave but I'll answer anyway. In fact just compared their stats. Henderson Age: 23 Price: 16M Total senior club games (all clubs) 162 Goals: 12 Allen Age:23 Price: 15M Total senior club games (all clubs) 161 Goals: 8 No bloody difference except in style. Lucas isn't at same level as he was either. Gerrard, well I've said my bit on him and it's pointless as he's on the first team no matter what. It needs a really big uplift. But.....isn't it nice to be talking about a midfield not being good enough that after a third of a season has us in 4th? Our expectations are on the rise again.
I'm not so sure Tobe s.if we show no improvement in league position by end of season maybe not but if we do somehow go up the places with Allen continuing to be fairly absent from the first 11, I can see him being shifted once improvements are bought. Again, he could put in some belter performances between now & then and this becomes a nothing discussion
I agree with you Frank. My issue is how Allen is being made a scapegoat despite hardly playing - I agree that if we want to be challenging for honours, then we meed big upgrades in a number of positions.
We also overpaid for Borini in the same window but BR has ****ed him off on loan despite us being short in players up top as a result. I doubt he would be afraid to do the same to Allen if he thinks Joe isn't performing. (I'm assuming you said Sunderland because of Borini?)
Yeah J, I have no great anger over Allen because he hasn't played. And he's done no worse than the others, that's basically my point. BR has what he has at his disposal, I'd have been annoyed if the same midfield from Hull had gone out and I dont think it will have done Lucas any harm to be dropped/rested. Now if he'd only have the balls to do it to Gerrard, just once after a poor or tired looking performance...... And we have to start seeing more of Alberto.
This.. with the Studge out, I'd like to see him and Ford behind Suarez. With Allen/Lucas, Gerrard and Hendo behind. one of these guys can bomb forward (hendo) and help out with the guys above.
Hopefully we have money anyway, Rodgers seems to think they'll back the right players so now its about convincing those 'right' players to come as we failed to do that in the summer. Think we'll have more pulling power with people dying to play with someone like Suarez and we aren't sitting mid-table.
The pulling power is in the next half a dozen games; get to January with a good shout at top four and players will be more interested. Especially with it being a world cup year are they would be more likely to see game time with us than with one of the current CL regulars. Of course, if they are at a club that are still in the CL then that would make it more difficult too.
Maybe I'm putting too much on to it but did anyone else see the symbolism of Aspas being given 1 minute to allow Suarez the ovation? Rogers may as well have screamed at him, show me you can match that or stay on the bench. I mean the ovation would have happened anyway with 10 minutes to go and given Aspas a chance to contribute. 1 minute was a message.
Um, he just wanted to give Suarez an ovation so he subbed him for the only other forward still on the bench.
Covered that, was more about the timing. Ovation would have happened with 10 to go and given Aspas some much needed minutes in a no pressure situation?
