Who needs strikers? I was getting a bit concerned coming to half time, the crowd had gone quiet, we had a lot of possession and played some good football but there was no real spark in the final third. The game changed as soon as Nathan came on the pitch. Suddenly we had a bit of pace in the team, nicked a goal just before half time and the whole mood changed. Newcastle had to come out of their shell and we exploited the extra space with some great interplay. A well deserved 3-0 win sent all Jacks home happy. Man of the Match - JJS A fantastic save by Vorm in the first half needs a special mention as does a great save by Krul from Shelvey in the second.
One of the best if not the best all round performance this season . from the off we looked a threat with our link up play on the right causing all sorts of problems , we restricted their chances in the first half to one attempt which admittedly made Vorm work but other than that shots from outside the box , the second half they created nothing , we looked like what ever shackles had been holding us back had been released ,110 % effort matched by our performance . Tiendelli , where's he been hiding, excellent overall . suburb now for match of the day . Ps I wonder if the oligarch behind the dugout were booing tonight
Great performance and we have to build on this now. With Hull and Norwich next 6pts would be very welcome thank you
Just got in after celebrating Wow. I never saw that one coming and neither did most of us. Kudos to those who predicted a win. We had a bit of luck bt there is a saying that you make your own luck and that was true. Should Shelvey have gone? Maybe, but having been cheated out of a few results lately I honestly couldn't give a ****. A decent Toon side that were on a roll were well and truly outplayed. Now we have to keep this going against Hull.
Best performance of the season in my view, shelvey's goal was a cracker and my MOM. I was a bit worried approaching HT a all our possession was going nowhere, Dyer made all the difference when he came on and was full of running but i can't understand why he never started...Now its all about consistency like Leighton james said in his column in the EP which we have not been able to do so far this season and as quick as we climb up a few places we can fall back. we need to string a few wins together to give us breathing space...8/10 tonight.....Ps im glad this is my last season as a ST holder as the liberty is like sitting in a fridge, It was bloody freezing and much too cold for an old man like me to do another season and i shall retire gracefully after 54 years service...coys..
I predicted a win ,our luck had to change and tonight it did , disregarding the Shelvey incident (which I didn't see and will wait to watch the replay ) but the little things which have got against us previously , the little challenges which have cost us a free kick ,the bounce of the ball falling to us instead of the opposition just little things which taken overall eat away at the teams confidence and tonight we were confident , our passing was slick and a with dramatic reduction in misplaced passes going astray meant that our overall play was effective both going forward and in when defending . A very happy man tonight and I would imagine a team who should be equally pleased with their performances tonight
Well done on that performance tonight from your lads. Really thought you were up against it without your 1st choice strikers.
Thanks taff, we played a good game, and kept newcastle on the back foot from the word go, though it needed Dyers pace and trickery to get at them, and he was rewarded well with the first goal!.............
Got home from game and watched commentators on BT & MOTD. Completely biased and negative. 1) handball - Yep BD hand was out but I think the ball hit him between chest & upper arm which was against his side. They then went back further to ball catching Ashley hand in flight.... may have a point as his hands were both in the air Ash should know better 2) Foul by Ashley - Really!! Newcastle player crumpled to the fall. If that's a foul there would be one a penalty every time a ball crossed into the box at head height. 3) Head butt- Ok Shelvey was lucky but I think we were 2 up by then I have also seen a number of players go to head butt Chico... he makes a meal of it but never anything given except against Chico 4) Nothing at all said about the terrible tackle on Pablo. Deserved points tonight but I hope Shelvey and Ashley learn lessons. We cannot afford to give refs excuse. ps not sure whats going on with the atmosphere
Agree with that. The Debuchy (I think) tackle on Pablo wasn't mentioned by anyone on MOTD and it should have been a straight red imo. Two footed and reckless. Shelvey should be given a one to one with the Manager and told that he is definitely a Jekyll and Hyde. Capable of running the show and shooting us in the foot at the same time. Remember the Liverpool game anyone? He must improve his concentration and if he really wants to emulate Gerrard his aggression needs control. But another great performance from him to be fair. We rode our luck but you know what? **** it. After being cheated out of points recently by the officials we deserved that. Some of our play was pass and move at its best, though you'd never think so watching the highlights.
The bias on the BT channel was shocking, particularly after the game, and it couldn't get more obvious, and just goes to show what Muppet's some of these commentators are, but I hope that Shelvey has a talking too once Laudrup sees the video footage, he was lucky not to walk! Great game though, and pleased for our boys!............................. I want to see Leon back too!
I don't think it was two footed, may be a tad reckless, but I didn't see it as malicious in any way!..................
Match of the day analysis - Newcastle unlucky. No comment on our play, on the performance of people like Shelvey. How we coped with having no recognised strikers - no tactical analysis because they are a) unable to and b) unwilling to do their jobs properly. I always picture that kind of office where, if one guy pulls his socks up it makes the other looks bad - so he gets shouted down. The problem with a lot of ex-pros is they don't want to dent their own popularity, so they foster that by being defferential to the big clubs. The ones with the loudest fans. As nice as their fans are, it is tiring to always here pundits kiss up to certain team's fans because it is so obviously trying to maintain popularity. it does always trickle down culturally. This idea that the Prem is better off with certain clubs doing well, that certasin clubs inherently deserve it, starts with people like that. From watching MoD. No interest in the swans. Ben Davies penalty - I could see how it could be given, but there are plenty of cases where it is blasted at a player and not given, so I can likewise see why it wasn't given. Claiming the Williams one was a penalty was a joke. What did he do? Player just hurled himself to the ground. Shelvey headbutt - no contact. So they praised the other player for not cheating and JJS should have gone because the player could have cheated and dived. It was naive and he has to stop stuff like that, but claiming he should have gone because the other player could have dived is reaching. Likewise, as pointed out above, the way they ignored the challenge on Hernandez is actually quite astonishing. Normally they would have the good sense to edit the evidence out of the show if they were going to deliberately ignore it. To be honest, when I watch MoD I record it now so I can skip the studio bits because they are so inane. The pay they get is astonishing for how little they do. I would think their pride would hurt when they see how much better Gary Neville is than them, but evidently an afternoon on the golf course and a big fat cheque eases that. OK rant over. Breathe.
