At the end of the day it's a tactic. One we haven't used well against lesser teams to get a strong result. Worked well for us today and would like to see us using it, when appropriate, against bottom third teams where we need to push on.
It makes all the more frustrating that defeat at doncaster & we could have been nice & clear at the top but settle for what we got so far.
What a superb win tonight after terrible match in Doncaster. Austin closing to the top marksman title.
Just got back and knackered from a busy day so haven't had a chance to read everyone's opinions on here but my observations are (for what it's worth) that it was a good result against a Bournemouth side who didn't have many (if any) shots on target. Main thing for me is why is David (Junior) Hoilett always taking that one touch too many and not having his shot until the opposition player is right on top of him. He did it a few times again tonight and its getting a more regular thing. The Lino was absolutely abysmal and how he didn't see the clear penalty in the first half and then gave instead a free kick in completely the wrong place, was truly shocking. In truth their player should of been red carded as well but oh well, despite that it was comfortable in the end but not a fantastic performance And to top it all, on a whim I had £150 on us to win tonight so that's a lot of my gutter paid for Roll on Saturday !!
I forgot the Barton incident earlier mate. I didn't see what happened (Too busy on my phone), but someone said their player stamped on JB. Was it a stamp or push ?? Either way, all around me in the paddock thought it should of been a red. It seemed Joey spoke to the ref on the players behalf, to NOT get him punished but I can't be sure
From SA road it looked like the Bournemouth man flung his right arm/elbow into Joey's chest, right in front of the ref. It was a definite lash-out, and would've probably resulted in a red were it the other way round. The penalty incident was one of the most farcical things I've seen for a long time. Where was this mysterious magical foul that occurred 10 yards outside of the box?
Regarding the game, I didn't actually think we were that good. Still very slow telegraphed passing, and today there was less control in the midfield. I thought Bournemouth were pretty abysmal during the first half, and we'd probably be punished playing 442 Vs Decent sides who press us high. We did improve with the 2nd + 3rd goals though, and confidence appeared to grow with each one. So enjoyable to see 3 goals for a change though- and handy that they were all for our "confidence goascorers" !
Certainly think we should use more at home, don't mind 4-5-1 away although a little more positivity wouldn't be bad.
Clear Pen I agree but disagree that our passing was ****e ... It wasn't up to our standard of late but won through against a team that can pass very well Bournemouth need a few more players and then they are a crisp side Can't see any negatives and 3 goals for a change went in Fans are getting confused because we at times make it look easy and look relaxed ... Exactly what a good side does ... There is no place for running around like headless chickens We were patient without the ball and won it back well against a good passing side not alike Brighton I can't find fault with much at all and was grateful to watch a controlled game by us as Bournemouth pressured us quickly when we had it Defusing those teams is not easy and can't understand posters who look for niggles We will need to totally implode to lose this title ... Oh that's a worry isn't it ? Grow a pair Support a lot better last night but still we are not doing enough at a crowd IMO ... Why? .... We are still sick in the habit of looking for faults We are top of the league because we are a very good solid side with real depth Fans who moan IMO have no right to celebrate when success comes and I am certain it will... Take the buzz we all get before a match and sustain it
I am back and now awake. Quick synopsis from last night from R block Felt we were well in control, agree with Oddball on this, fully in control...and eventually it showed. Defence excellent...impressed with Dunne after the small tricky forward was brought on after 65 minutes...he kept him well in place...not sure how but he did Carroll was excellent...two absolutely peerless passes to the forwards running the channels (one to AJ, one to Junior) So busy, so active (Joeys Gopher) Joey got rattled, rightly...but held it together AJ was a lot of trouble and excellent Soooooooooooooooooooo impressed with Austin, he was everywhere, worked so hard. Hoillet a lot of trouble, but suffers from the SWP problem, excellent until the last pass/shot. His goal was infront of the guy lying in the goal, but still crept in. Have no idea how it went in Good controlled performance...quietly impressive, exactly what we needed And the other matches went for us too... Roll on Blackburn...I am off travelling for work...so see you all at Leicester Come on u RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRs
Thanks for the post, Beth and all ............... 'goldcoastranger' was feeding me updates each time we scored .................. thanks Nick. Great to have a comfortable win.
Has to be the most enjoyable game I've seen in a long time, Good stream, better players, great goals. 442 has to be the new 451 at home. Thought that O'Neil played an important role last night definite change of pace when he went off, Glad Hoilett got a goal, I think he really needed that. Good Job.
