I really do not know what to think, or say, about the appointment of Steve Cotterill as our new manager but the overall underwhelming feeling that I have basically sums it up in a nutshell.

No one expected a top level international manager with World Cup or Champions League medals dangling down his chest but quite honestly I would have loved something more earth moving than what we have done. The favourite in most eyes has landed the prize and we move on to whatever future lies in his managerial grasp and the main cry from the woods appears to be to give him a chance to settle in before we start swinging our axes to chop him down, and that is a sentiment well intended.

Take a step back for a moment and try and put yourselves in our boardroom when you know darned well that salary, and commitment to paying the piper to succeed, have long been issues at Ashton Gate, and realistically nothing was going to change during this employee search. The time to get the manager most of us would want, whoever that may be, disappeared like a rat up a drainpipe when the FFP rules came our way followed quickly by a relegation that we didn't need and probably should have avoided given the right set of circumstances and a bit more commitment from the board.

So here we are with yet another new manager and the usual promises will coming flooding from the top down to us assuring all the faithful that everything is going to be O.K because after all we have 5 pillars on which we will rebuild our beloved Bristol City and never return to such a low level as we currently aren't enjoying.

Is our new SC going to provide us with the answers or are we just going to continue in oblivion downwards to League 4? The old adage of only time will tell is very appropriate in this case and I have a strange feeling that the time has come for a major change in out fortunes and so we hand the reins over to Steve and wish him well for the rest of the season and in to next year. I may be underwhelmed, but so are many others, and the best way to change that mindset is to finally get the players earning their money and from there out the respect of the supporters will not be far behind. Good luck and if you can get me a free pass I might come over (lol).

    Bring it on!

Two things that made me laugh (will probably cry if true)

    1. "If you thought O'Driscoll's after game press conferences were a blast wait until you hear Cotternil tell you that 'We'd have won that 1-0 if they hadn't scored 2'!"

    2. "You need to have a word with local air traffic control so they can put an exclusion zone around your ground so no planes get hit by footballs".

You should see what the Forest fans thought of him when someone from another City forum asked the question....

Apologies if this has already done the rounds. I'm working away from home and don't have much access.
