Who would you sign this January?

I think that position is crucial. I wish we had signed Amalfitano.

Yeah I agree. A fit Aluko would be a good signing.

I think Aluko is just about irreplaceable for a club with our budget and stature, he's that good, when fit.

I'm sure there'll be a number 10 out there who could do a job though, it's probably the most popular position in football right now.

My guess is a lower league player, with Matty Fryatt swap as part of the deal.

We'll no doubt be competing with a number of other clubs in the bottom half for goal scorers. West Ham will no doubt be looking for a goal scorer, which given the fact we 'nearly' signed Shane Long makes it more frustrating.

I can't see many PL teams selling a goal scoring asset in the January window, so it will most likely be the Championship or abroad.

Why is it, that since Long scored 2 vs. Villa, he's now seen as our goalscoring solution?

    Rhodes.

That Djordevic we've been linked with looks decent, but is unlikely imo.

I really wish we had got Long. Still pissed off with that.

Because he's a good player. He scored 13 goals in the PL last season. 4 so far this season, mostly as a sub. I'd rather have a proven PL player than a rookie from the Championship - totally unproven at this level. Unfortunately our chances of signing Long are now zero. The fact that a number of far better clubs than us are interested in Long, illustrates that he's a decent player.

I don't think our need for a centre-forward is as desperate as it has been for a few years. We always seem to need a striker at this time of year.

He scored 8 last season, 8 the season before. He's only ever scored more than 9 in a season once, that was in the championship

He's scored 21 PL goals in the 4 seasons he's played PL football prior to this season.

This season he's scored 3 (2 in 1 game) in 10 games (3 were sub app). He started the first 3 games for WBA this season & not only did he not score neither did the team.

His assist record is also not outstanding. (5 in the last 2 seasons)

If we get him in Jan his record suggest he'd be worth 3-4 goals & an assist. It would be a bigger risk getting Long rather than an in form Championship striker, come January.

Sagbo is doing a great job, but we can't really just rely on him. If he gets injured then we're snookered if we don't do anything in January. Aluko, if he does come back this season is still a bit fragile for my liking. Danny Graham whilst he does some good work, doesn't look like scoring any time soon. I think it has to be a priority, and ideally two strikers. Most PL teams have 4, that can score at this level.

Everyone I talk to says Graham just needs to get a goal, I personally think that Sagbo is going to keep getting better and better, he's out the ball in the net, but he probably needs to put a match winner away, just to give him that boost. His goal against Southampton wasn't really worth celebrating. And against Everton it turned out to be just a consolation goal after the final result. He could do with smashing in the winner against Arsenal or Man U. He's gonna keep getting better anyways.

I would also like to see more of Gedo. His goals when on form in the championship last season seriously lifted us at the time we needed them, surely he can play at premier league level.

Personally I don't think Koren will get to how he was. His time with us may be his last chance at premier league football, I just hope he can give it that little push and get on it.

Aluko should be for again February time. We do need to tie him up for another few years. I'm sure when he's closer to fitness he'll sign a contract.

We need to nail Jake Livermore down to the team.

There's no point signing a non proven championship goal scorer without giving Matty Fryatt a good run out, he was once our top scorer. So don't see why we can't give him a go.

We need a 5m striker, and I'd say Shane Long should get the first look in.

There isn't any point signing anyone that isn't guaranteed to improve us.

I'm really not sure we do. GLP's post above highlights that Sagbo is doing well and the only danger is him losing form or getting injured. He only cost us £1.6m so if we can get another cheap foreign gamble who turns out decent like Sagbo then we're fine. Last couple of years I think we really needed a proven striker, now we just need a bit more depth really.

Remember anything we spend is just adding to Allam's loans. I don't like us owing him so much money. We need to get that debt down, but then if £5m guarantees PL football for another season then it'll be worth it.

The striker we've been linked with looked pretty decent, the you tube clip of him showed a real variety of finishing. In some games which are deemed 'must win' it would be great to see two out and out strikers on the pitch at the same time - Sagbo and a n other. If we'd had that ability up top v Palace, then I'm sure we'd be sat back with a lofty 20 points at the moment. The team is really impressing me at the moment, if we can get another goal scorer in then I think we can consolidate this season.
