Just announced that he has been sacked by Wigan and is looking for employment. I have always liked him and think he goes about his business in a thoroughly professional manner and has had success in the past, but would he come down to our level? If I were Lansdown I would in his driveway first thing in the morning and offer him 500K for the rest of the season and a substantial bonus to get us above 16th place in the division by the end of the season. Then if he meets that target offer him a 2 year renewable contract at the end of each season with bonuses to achieve certain targets including league status and attendances. Hang on my wife just woke me up and told me to come back to real world and to use her words "you're talking about Bristol City" and then she told me to keep taking the pills. Reality bites!!!!
His record has been patchy - really well in some places (St Johnstone/Burnley) - very poor in others (Wigan/Bolton)
What a fortunate time to be looking for a new manager as we have the pick of the finest in the land -lol.
Well, the only thing you can guarantee on the day you're appointed a manager is that you'll probably be out of a job within 2 years! If you think about it, there's a big pool of ex-managers out there, many of whom have had success at one or two clubs, but done poorly at one or two others (and hence are available). It's just one big merry-go-round, especially below the Premier League, as 8 or 9 times out of 10, it's the same old names being mentioned whenever there a vacancy occurs and a familiar face getting the job. Of course City are a far less attractive prospect for a prospective manager than they were a year ago, but you'd think there's still a lot of managers who'd be interested (everyone has got bills to pay). While it seems Cotterill has already been sounded out and apparently accepted the job, I wish we'd seen the club publicly advertise the vacancy (an old fashioned way of doing things it seems) and do a short list and interview a few people, rather than what seems to be happening this time where it's a local, cheap option with old boy connections who has been sounded out. Our next league game isn't until Dec 14, and we're on a hiding to nothing at Tamworth next Sunday, so why not have taken some time to maybe get it right and talk to some quality people? Oh yeah... it's the Bristol City Board we're talking about. (Footnote: I wouldn't mind seeing Coyle being talked about as a possibility for us, nor Dave Jones)
Owen left by mutual consent...bit like SOD..... DIDNT like OC because of the way he stitched up Burnley, got his just deserts.. failure since, maybe BCFC could teach him a thing or 2
....like how to really suffer Coyle or Jones would be a fine acquisition for us, but along with Warnock and Hollyhead I cant see us getting them. We dont smell too good at the moment
